Stairway to Heaven actually contains 2 complete living spaces – one upstairs, the other downstairs. Each has its own kitchen, living room, bedrooms and baths, and even washer/dryer! (Each is also available for separate rental, if you prefer.) This is absolutely perfect for 2 families traveling together, a big family reunion, or any group desiring self-contained spaces as well as plenty of togetherness. And the whole house works well as a harmonious whole. Step out onto the second-floor oceanfront deck and you find a sweeping view of the coastline, including unspoiled natural dunes and the apricot-tinged coquina-shell sands unique to this part of northeast Florida. Casual furnishings and plenty of open space welcome you on this deck, and you may be tempted to kick off your shoes and settle right in with a cold drink. And why not? Something about the murmur of the surf, the tinge of salt in the sea breeze, and the vast sky is hypnotic and utterly stress-relieving. Enjoy! When it’s time to go indoors, bring the view with you. Long windows fill one entire wall of Stairway to Heaven, so you can enjoy the changing colors of the sea and watch the pelicans glide past even when you’re reclining in the living room, playing a lightning gin rummy match at the table, or rustling up tasty appetizers in the kitchen! The great room is made for family time together. A giant stone fireplace made from coquina stone occupies one wall, complete with a hearth with sea stars hidden among the stones. A group of couches and chairs surrounds the fireplace, ideal for cozy chats and raucous games of charades. In another part of the room, a 52” HDTV with 300+ channels entertains the kids and teens. In fact, if they beg to stay up late to finish a movie, why not just unfold the pull-out double bed in the couch, fill a bowl with popcorn, and let them have a “sleepover”?! Just beyond the great room are the dining area and kitchen, beautifully appointed and spotlessly maintained. There are so many nice features to discover here, from the dolphin-statue pedestal of the dining table to the unique backsplash made of seashells collected by a local artist. There are 2 bedrooms and 2 baths upstairs at Stairway to Heaven. The master suite is magnificent, with ocean views, a stone fireplace, queen-sized tester bed, balcony access, and TV with DVD player. The bath includes a huge double shower, marble tiled floor, and convenient washer/dryer. The second bedroom has a king-sized bed, big flat-screen, and French doors leading onto the balcony with glorious views. Across the hallway is the second bathroom, with a Jacuzzi and separate walk-in shower. As palatial as the upstairs is at Stairway to Heaven, the downstairs is spacious and attractive as well. A good-sized living room accommodates the whole group, with an HDTV and plenty of comfy sofas and recliners. The kitchen and dining area are attached, and include fully stocked cabinets, full-size appliances, and plenty of seating for meals, games, puzzles, and the laptop. (You have free WiFi throughout Stairway to Heaven.) The downstairs includes a full bath (with shower and tub combo) and 2 bedrooms – one with a king-sized bed, the other with a single and trundle. A second washer and dryer are available here, and both bedrooms have TVs. The first-floor views include our wildflower garden, the lovely dunes, and of course the ocean. Just yards from Washington Oaks Garden State Park beach, Stairway to Heaven is a little piece of paradise. Dolphins swim past, a gopher tortoise meanders through the garden, and pelicans soar overhead. Historic downtown St. Augustine is just minutes away, but this beach feels wonderfully remote. Stroll the sands, watch the sun rise and count the stars.
