vacation rental description
Come get away to our island home far from the busyness of daily life. Unplug, sit back and relax on our quiet peaceful porch. Take a breathtaking ferry ride and stay in our lovely 4 bedroom, 1 bath, house on the island of North Haven, Maine. The house is set on a saltwater marsh with cattails, herons, osprey, bald eagles and all sorts of other wildlife for viewing. The house looks out on Bartlett’s Harbor with a panoramic view of the harbor and beyond. Bartlett’s harbor has a private walkable (at the end of the road - about 150 ft away) beach shared by the other property owners, often you may be the only person on the beach. It is very quiet and peaceful. The water is clear, amazingly clean and mussels grow right on the shore and are available for harvesting daily when the tide is out. The water in Maine is cold, but I remember that didn't stop me from swimming when I was a kid! Bring a wet suit or an inner tube and you won't even notice.
At night you will hear basically nothing and you can lie or sit on the porch under a blanket as we did as children and stare at the stars to count how many shooting stars you see.
Our family has gone to Maine every summer for 54 years and we love the family time it allows us and the peacefulness we feel after our time there. We hope you do too!

house rental amenities
The kitchen is fully equipped (sorry no dishwasher), linens are provided, and some games for kids and adults are there. Along with the four bedrooms there is a living room with a couch and tv, a dining/den room, and a kitchen with a table for eating informally. The porch sits on the marsh and has an unobstructed view of the harbor. There is a charcoal grill outside, so you have three different places to eat depending on your mood or the weather! On the east side of the house there is space to store bikes, boats, etc (though it is not covered).
activities and attractions in North Haven/Vinalhaven Islands Maine
On the island you can sail, kayak, hike, bike, run, fish, visit other beaches and picnic along with many other activities. Along the roads in Maine are the most beautiful wildflowers and you can pick a bouquet for yourself every day!
In season, there are three wonderful restaurants or you can choose to cook local lobster and other local seafood in our wonderful, fully-stocked kitchen or outside on the barbeque. Dine inside at the large dining table or outside on the porch at sunset. Choose from any of the varied activities or just relax and sit with a book and a glass of wine. Also available are 2 gift shops, a grocery store with wi-fi, a library, a golf course and a community center with plays and recent movies. The island is hopping with visitors in the summer and there is LOTS to do!
