Beach House on the Moon in Dauphin Island

Beautiful Beach Location...needs a little TLC

We stayed at Beach House on the Moon for 7 nights in Aug 2012. The house sits directly on the Gulf side beach with an unobstructed view. It has a great deck to sit and watch/listen to the ocean. We saw dolphis, jumping fish, jellyfish and a couple of rays swam by. Lots of sand crabbing at night which the kids LOVED. The house is well appointed with a large open living/dining/kitchen space. We had 11 people with us, ages 2-70, and it never felt crowded. Each room has ample furniture and enough bath towels provided for 11 people. You will need to bring your own beach towels. The kitchen is well stocked has granie counter tops and great cabinets.

Now the reason for 3 stars...While the house wasn't filthy, the cleaning service is missing some crucial areas. The baseboards in all the bathrooms were not cleaned and lots of hair was evident on the floor. And the toilets needed cleaning around the bases (Which we did). It also appeared as if the rooms had not been swept. The shower curtain in our room had mildew at the bottom and put off a mild odor. The bed linens left much to be desired as they are inexpensive material that pilled up after mild use and felt rough when sleeping. One of the queen beds noticably sloped down toward the end and when we lifted the bed skirt up discoved it was broken and being help up by a phone book. I called the management company concerning the bed and they said they would send someone out but no one ever came, so we ended up using a pan from the kitchen to make the bed more level.

In the living/dining space, again it appeared as if it had not been swept. One of the kids' toys rolled under the couch and when we retrieved the toy it was apparent the couch had not been swept under (the couch is easily moved as it is on tile and not against the wall) and the couch cushions are rarely removed for cleaning, LOTS of stuff under there! Open corners were dirty and there were some sticky spots on the floor that I don't believe would have been there if it had been mopped. I got the sweeper out and did the floors and under the couch cushions.

The kitchen was actually VERY clean with the exception of the floors which needed mopped.

None of these problems kept us from having a good time because the beach and location are awesome. However, it was a minor annoyance to have to come in and clean before we started our vacation. Especially since we pay a cleaning fee.

It's a great house that needs some attention to detail.
