The Merida/Progreso area is one of the safest area in all of Mexico. It is conducive to family living, long term friendships and outmost relaxation. The port of Progreso receives multiple cruise ships a week and on those days, the Malecon is hopping.

Food

Every Sunday morning starting at 7-8am, cochinita pibil (pulled pork) is sold across the street. "Cien pesos" will get you 4 good helpings. A new Thai restaurant is available 2 blocks south. Great fried fish is available on Calle 27, about 3 miles east. Awesome chargrilled chicken can be had downtown for 75 pesos with all the trimmings. The beach palapas restaurants serve cold beer and free botanas (snacks). For "finer' dining try the Flamingo's restaurant at the east end of the Malecon. The blue pick-up truck on the road out of town, by Bodega, sells whole scampi from Campeche (it rhymes)!

Tranportation..

 The condo is on the bus routes to/from Progreso. The buses run every 5 min to Chicxulub and Progreso. Merida can be reached by multiple airlines from Canada, US or Mexico City and also by first class bus service from Cancun Airport. Travel time to Cancun Airport by car is about 4 hours. The local bus will take you to the local markets and shopping areas in downtown Progreso. Rental cars are available in Merida, Rajon airport or major hotels.  

Shopping

Fresh fruits and bakery abound at every market, store and street corner. Merida has more than 7 Walmarts, Cosco, Sam's Club, Home Depot and premium shopping stores like Mega, Sears and Liverpool. The Progreso Bodega Aurelia (Walmart store) will accept USD for groceries and other supplies. ($50 max).

Banking

The local bank ATMs offer excellent exchange rates and card security. The US/Canadian COSCO, SAM'S membership cards are honored at the Mexican counterparts. If paying by credit card, some stores may add a steep transaction fee to the cash price. ALL gas stations are full serve and the pumps do auto reset to "0"..Most of the time!..

Safety

Merida and the Progreso areas are recognized as the safest parts of Mexico not just by Mexican standards but also by the US State Department. The area is patrolled by more than 5 different safety entities (Tourist police, Village police, City police, County police, Federal and Highway patrols).  Drugs and drunk driving are not tolerated and breathalizer tests are administered at surprise roadblocks.

The local clinic in Progreso is open 24/7, it has english speaking doctors and the hospitals in Merida are equal to US/ Canadian care. Doctor, ER visit cost as little as $55.00

Reservation Requirements:

One month's security deposit and first' month rent due at time of reservation.

Full payment for entire rental period  is due 60 days before rental is to begin. If reservation is cancelled less than 60 days in advance of rental to begin, security and 1st month deposit is forfeited. The security deposit will be refunded after inspection for damage and/or missing items. The refund will be returned within 7 days of inspection. Funds to be paid in a manner suitable to both parties.
