Please note: Our calendar is not always up to date, as we do not make updates to this site every week. Please let us know what week you are interested in - if a week shows as booked, there is always the possibility there was a cancellation.

Unique 100-year old beach home (circa 1906) - affectionately named The Hula House - with authentic, vintage tropical/Hawaiian decor, 2 blocks to Lewes Beach. Bike down to Cape Henlopen State Park, walk into town and shop the eclectic boutiques along Main Street, drive 3 miles down the road to Rehoboth Beach's Boardwalk.  You can't compare when it comes to our decor, as there is nothing like The Hula House! Pet friendly for most "good dogs," sorry, no kitties or any other animals. The maximum occupancy is 8 including children of any age.  NO sleeping on sofa or other furnishings.  Eight means eight - it does not mean 8 plus a child, or an infant, or 3 to a bedroom.  Occupancy over 8 will result in forfeiture of security deposit.

We enjoy sharing The Hula House with family and friends .  We're very proud that over 85% of our renters choose to return to The Hula House as repeat guests.  Please keep in mind that this is our home, where we too enjoy spending relaxing vacations throughout the year, and that it is filled with vintage decor and special accents.  Our expectation is that guests treat the house respectfully, and collectively help us to maintain its character and cleanliness.  We continually strive to update the house and make it a comfortable retreat for all that visit, which has helped us to maintain one of the highest number of summer AND off-season bookings in Lewes for over 20 years!! Thank you in advance for treating the house and furnishings as you would your own (or at least as you would a good friend's home). Well-behaved children, and many pups, are welcome.  

Compare our property to others in Lewes - we offer the best rate for a house of this size and close proximity (walking distance) to the water! FOUR bedrooms and TWO full baths! AND, the decor can't be compared to ANY other home in Lewes!

The furnishings and vintage decor of The Hula House make it unsuitable to leave children unsupervised.  Persons under the age of 21 should be under the supervision of a mature adult; young children should never be left unattended, due to the risk of damage to the house during horseplay or curious small hands (examples: knocking vintage pottery pieces from shelves, pulling down vintage hula skirts which are mounted on the home's walls including bedrooms).  Damage insurance does not cover intentional damages such as the examples above, and the tenant agrees to be fully responsible.  Damages will first be deducted from the security deposit.  

Unfortunately, our rental history has proven that groups with multiple families or several children cause the most damage to our home, due to inattentiveness of parents and children that are allowed to run amok and whose destructive behavior is viewed as "cute" by the parents.  We are not the Hilton, with a limitless budget or supply of vintage items to replace those items that a careless Tenant damages.  If you're not willing to treat the house in a respectful manner, please inquire elsewhere.

As with our own pups, if a small dog is allowed, it will not have free roam of the house.  When indoors, they are restricted to the large kitchen and aare to be kenneled. 

We accept payments through PayPros (credit cards and echecks verified and accepted through PayPros) or personal check in some instances when 30 days prior to check-in date.

  • New propane furnace system (heat only) and separate hot water heater
    (the house made it through the storm ok, but in November 2012 Hurricane Sandy's winds whipped down our chimneyy and took out our good 'ole workhorse oil furnace)

The town of Lewes is a true gem in Delaware - quiet but progressive, where the sun, the sand, and the sea are still the number one attractions.  Lewes was founded in 1631, and the townspeople take great pride in its historic heritage.  Lewes is uniquely situated where the Delaware Bay and Atlantic Ocean meet at Cape Henlopen. Nowhere can the beauty of Cape Henlopen State Park be equaled. In this preserved land you find miles of beautiful beaches, nature trails and bird sanctuaries.

Enjoy Lewes by foot, as it is indeed a walking town. Within a half-square mile you will find the Historic district, museums, fine restaurants, and some great shops!

2014 Season

     Winter through May 17, 2014 $900/week or
     $200 to $250/night with 4-night minimum.

     Shoulder May 17 to May 24, 2014 $1000/week or
     $200 to $250/night with 4-night minimum.

     May 24 to May 31 - $1000/week, no nightly rentals.
     May 31 - June 7 -  $1150/week, no nightly rentals.
     June 7 to June 14 - $1300/week, no nightly rentals.
     June 14 to June 21 - $1400/week, no nightly rentals.
     June 21 to June 28 - $1500/week, no nightly rentals.
     June 28 to August 9 - $1550/week, no nightly rentals.
     August 9 to August 16 - $1500/week, no nightly rentals.
     August 16 to August 23 - $1350/week, no nightly rentals.
     August 23 to August 30 - $1150/week, no nightly rentals.
     August 30 to October 4 - $950/week, no nightly rentals.

     October 4 to December 28 - $900/week or
     $200 to $225/night with 4-night minimum

We strive to make your rental experience as comfortable and secure as possible.  Please review the following guidelines.

  • Weekly rentals are Saturday to Saturday.  Check-in is no earlier than 3pm; check-out is no later than 10am.
  • The MAXIMUM occupancy is 8, which includes both children and adults.
  • All rental correspondence is sent via email, and it is the responsbility of the Renter to provide a possess a valid email address and working printer/scanner to complete the reservation within the required time periods outlined below.
  • A 50% deposit is due to Owner within 72 hours of the emailing of the rental contract.  All documents (a signed rental contract, house guidelines, pet addendum, and pet photo) must be received by the Owner within the 72 hours as well). No refunds are given once a contract is signed.  The balance of the contract must be paid no later than 30 days prior to check-in, and any additional pet documents (vet verification, proof of liability insurance covering dogs) be provided to Owner.
  • If a reservation is made less than 30 days prior to check-in, full payment and all documents referenced above must be received by Owner within 24 hours after rental contract is sent to renter via email. No refunds are given once a signed contract is received by Owner. 
  • DURING THE OFF-SEASON, THE HOUSE IS AVAILABLE FOR A MINIMUM 4-NIGHTS RENTAL. In some instances, during off-season, a 3-night rental may be negotiated. However, all rentals less than 4 nights incur an additional $100.00 cleaning fee on top of rental rate.
  • Damage insurance purchased through CSA Travel Insurance is required at time of rent deposit.  Cost is currently $69.00 for $3,000 in damage insurance,and is paid directly to CSA.  This is not optional, and no lease will be valid unless insurance is paid for. Rates offered by CSA are subject to change.
  • A $350 security deposit is held, and any damages/losses will first be deducted from this amount, and balance refunded to Tenant.  Tenant will be provided with receipts and can then file for reimbursement from CSA.  Tenant is responsible for any damages above the $350 security deposit, regardless of whether CSA will cover them or not.
  • A copy of the driver's license for the person signing the lease must be submitted as proof of identification, and must match all information on the lease and match the address on an personal check submitted. No other form of I.D. is accepted.
  • ACTIVE DUTY Military members signing lease - please check our "DEALS" to see if we are running any military specials. 
  • When pet is allowed, a NON-REFUNDABLE pet fee of $200.00 due at least 7 days prior to check-in.
  • Only personal checks and PayPro payments are accepted.  Personal checks are only accepted when payment will be received at least 30 days in advance of check-in. Personal checks do NOT include checks drawn on a credit card convenience check. Personal checks must be on known U.S. banks, with renter's full name and address pre-printed on check. Name and address on check must match the information on lease, and must be signed by the same person as lease.
  • Payments made via PayPro require a 3% service fee (to cover the 2.5% plus $4.99 per transation fee that PayPro charges us).  Payments viw personal checks do not have a service fee added.
  • For pet guests, proof of liability insurance, a pet addendum and other guidelines apply, some breeds not permitted.  Small dogs only, absolutely NO cats or other critters. Renter will email color photo of pet prior to lease being accepted.  Renter will be required to have their homeowners insurance issue us a Certificate of Insurance, showing that the specific dog is covered by their policy, with a minimum $300,000 policy. We must be provided witha Certificate of Insurance showing the house as the insured, and showing coverage for dog bites, the insurance company's contact info, and the insurer must email to us directly the policy information (no "forwarded" emails which can be altered). Dogs must be under 25 pounds.  Any mix breed of undertermined breed mix cannot be accomodated.  All dogs must be over 12 months old.  No pure bred or mix that is on most insurer's list of the top 12 biting breeds may stay.
  • House is strictly NON-SMOKING.
  • All persons signing our lease must be age 25 or older.
  • A list of guests that includes anyone under the age of 25 will be provided at time of lease submission.
  • No groups under age 25, unless two parents or legal guardians are present during entire rental and signees on the lease. 
  • House is personally inspected by neighbor upon Tenant's departure for any damages, including excessive cleaning necessary.  Excessive cleaning and damage fees will result for such things as the following: leaving dishes in dishwaser regardless of if clean; urine on floors or seats; food left in fridge or freezer; damaged or missing blankets, pillows, pillow covers, etc.; damage to floors or furnishings including food or suntan lotion stains on the furnishings; excessive smells from smoking in the house (will require professional deodorization and possible replacement of furnishings); ink, crayon or other on any walls, furnishings, bedding, etc.; soiling of mattress or pillow covers from using them as primary bed covering rather than Tenant providing their own linens (GROSS!); candy wrappers or food left on floors; obvious damage from Tenant misbehavior of porch furnishings, back yard bird feeder, trees, clothes line, fence surrounding house, signage on outside of house. and other.  
  • Home has been investigated by paranormal activity group.

We enjoyed our stay at The Hula House. It was very quaint and serene. The beach access was wonderful and we even got to view a storm from our porch. We hope to stay here again next time we're in Delaware - Thank you!

Loved our stay at The Hula House!

I've been coming to Lewes for over 20 years. And about 5 years ago I rented 301(across the street). While outside, I spotted The Hula House from across the street and always said to myself I'm going to rent it one day, just to see what it looks like inside! Well, finally this year I got it and I must say WOW! Loved it! Loved that it felt like I was really in Hawaii. Thank you so much for the experience. Will definitely recommend it to friends. Til next year :).

The Hula House

Our family has twice spent Memorial Day in Lewes at the Hula House. We love it for it's wonderful character and comfort, it's proximity to the bay, as well as the center of Lewis. The area couldn't be more beautiful. I would recommend this house to anyone.
