vacation rental description

w w w . lake geneva cabin . c o m

The house at 762 Upper Brookwood in Fontana lies tucked away at the end of a long winding pebble laden road and sits atop a hill overlooking Lake Geneva. This house is a chocolate, mocha, and tan A-frame and is built extending out onto the side of a hill, so that the house sits at treetop level. The walls are paneled with giant panes of glass on the three sides of the house that face away from the street and into the Walworth Forest behind it. The woods recede into a steep valley where a rocky brook babbles and flows all the way into the beautiful deep waters of the clear cobalt lake. From the inside, the glass gives the illusion of living like the Swiss Family Robinson. From the exterior, the house is hidden from the road by the camouflage of many giant maples, oaks, firs, and pines. From the back of the house, the glass walls reflect the foliage surrounding them as the Upper Brookwood retreat adapts to become part of the kaleidoscope of greens and browns, like a chameleon. This architecturally breathtaking home is most visible at night when the interior lights are turned on, which makes it look like a giant glowing Jack-O-Lantern floating through the trees.

activities and attractions in Lake Geneva Wisconsin

When at the cabin you will rarely see people other than family and invited friends. The only evidence that humans share the earth with you is found in the sounds of their toys. If you focus on the sounds around you, you can hear man's voice in the distant horn of freight trains calling into the night sky like the bellowing of a stampeding herd. you will hear it in the occasional buzz of an Ultralight that mimics the soft but insistent hum of the humming bird that floats alongside the basket of flowers that hangs above your head while sipping mango margaritas. And, if the volume of ambient noise is set on low and the wind is just right you can hear the actual sound of human voices in the distance, usually in the delighted squeals of small children as they play ragtag off the pier, in the pretend terror (but equally delighted) screams of young girls being tossed into the chilly waters, and in the late night brawling and braying of drunken young men as they make their way home from Chuck's and Gordy's.

As the calendar races to the autumnal equinox, the whole of nature changes and excitement enlivens the air. The view from the windows has become an explosion of color. You will feel as if you have walked into Tutankhamen's tomb and its splendor of gold. In the brisk breeze of morning the riot of color plays a snappy song to accompany the rhythmic dancing of the leaves in the trees. The crisp air will make you want to curl up with a book as though you are cohorts deep into planning an escape to another world. As you embark upon your trip you will find you have become keenly aware of: the squirrels clucking as they chase each other; the rattle of the crisp crunchy carpet of leaves that is a new crackling carpet on the forest floor; the creek sounds more decisive, water snapping over the stones on its way to an important appointment; and the conversational gobbles of wild turkeys as they hobble across the woods like a long-married couple on a stroll through the park. All of the forest friends seem to be busy on assignment, no longer the playful vacationers of summer.

In the depths of winter the air outside my cabin hangs frigid above the snow covered forest floor. With the canopy barren, however, the sun's rays can pierce the trees and pour brighter, sterile light through the glass warming you deep into your bones.  As winter comes calling in your Robinson Caruso cabin like an uninvited visitor there is a newness and solemnity about my forest. The great panes of glass reflect the stately grey-brown maples, oaks and firs dressed in their winter finery. The forest stands straighter, taller, and so eerily quiet that you'll yearn for noise or movement from your friends in nature. It is the quiet of death but one that is startling fresh and crisply white. A favorite place to read in the winter is under the eaves in the loft next to the window where natural light streams through so pristinely that a painter would envy your nest.  As the golden rays embrace you in a weightless blanket of warmth you will feel the embrace of the cozy warm cabin sheltering you from the snap of cold that has iced the windows like the still and frozen creek.

As the calendar creeps toward the transitional season of the vernal equinox, the house is suffused with the light of spring and the budding emeralds it spawns in the trees and plants.  Although the air carries the baggage of winter's cold it is fresh with the promise of summer's warmth.  The joy of spring and rebirth of nature are reflected in the energy of the awakening and joyful song of nature announcing to the world "I am back." The long sleep has ended.  Nature sounds her trumpet with a burst of green. The creek is dancing and the birds are serenading the great magical green carpet unfolding and celebrating a new day, a fresh beginning.  Rebirth is all around the Tree House hailing every bird, rabbit, and squirrel to join the song.  As you sit outside, green impressionism cascades before me and there is invigoration in the air.
