More outdoor activities than you can imagine while sitting at home, especially skiing, coupled with Old West and Mormon history, lead you to Utah. Take that needed rest and relaxation from the active lifestyle in a Utah vacation rental. Utah Skiing With so many mountain ranges, Utah is naturally suited to be a great vacation destination for skiing. Touted as “The Best Snow on Earth,” Utah has many resort areas primed for skiing and winter activity, mostly in Northern Utah. The Salt Lake City area was the site of the 2002 Winter Olympics, and various locations around the area were able to accommodate various events for the games. Utah is home to the headquarters of the U.S. Ski and Snowboard Associations. The average snowfall is 300 to 500 inches, so there’s plenty of snow to go around for skiers in Utah! Utah Key Areas Northern Utah includes The Cache Valley, where mountains surround the agricultural town of Logan. Logan Canyon offers gorgeous views, and the Bear Lake Recreation Center has year-round activities. Cache Valley also has a number of food factories with samplings available from cheese to honey. Ogden has become popular throughout the years for railroad connections and skiing, with the Winter Olympic event site Snowbasin Resort doubling as a biking/hiking locale during summer. Another 2002 Winter Olympic site is Utah Olympic Park in Park City, where the Eccles Center provides entertainment, and shopping is a draw. Enjoy fly-fishing in the Provo River, famous for trout fishing. The Homestead Resort is situated beautifully, has varied style rooms and holds activities inside and outside from January through December. The highest peaks of Utah are found in the Uinta Mountains; experience horse and llama packing or stay traditional with hiking and backpacking, but the rafting in this area is excellent, too. Salt Lake City is Utah’s capital and has a wealth of activities to enjoy, including genealogy fans’ favorite, the Family History Library. Admire the architecture and grounds of the State Capitol building, and visit This is the Place Heritage Park, a living history museum recapturing life in mid 19th century Utah. Historic Temple Square is the home of the world famous Mormon Tabernacle Choir. Enjoy the great skiing here, and tour the Olympic facilities, testing your abilities on some. Nine Mile Canyon in Castle Country holds Native American petroglyphs and great Fremont rock display. Central Utah has a host of historic elements coupled with wonderful outdoor fun. The Paiute ATV trail is considered among the world’s best, and take your ATV along the Little Sahara Sand Dunes. Find the rock art at Fremont Indian State Park, and uncover the remnants of the former mining towns of Bullion Canyon and Marysvale. Snowmobile or rockhounding – there’s some outdoor enjoyment for everyone. In the southern part of Utah, Moab, considered the adventure capital in Utah, is home to two national parks: Canyonlands and Arches. Arches National Park contains the largest collection of natural stone arches around the globe. Canyonlands is Utah’s largest park, with formations in red rock. Feel the history of a pioneer area while enjoying the unique geology and flora in Capitol Reef National Park. Monument Valley has a true Old West flavor, along with unique sandstone formations and the Monument Valley Navajo Tribal Park. Bryce Canyon has a profuse amount of red rock formations that dazzle, along with green forest areas. It’s a maze at Canyons of the Escalante, where plateaus, canyons, and cliffs combine. Lake Powell, which is a highly regarded houseboat destination; houseboats can be rented on your vacation. Try your outdoor skills here with boating, kayaking, or possibly cliff jumping. The largest natural bridge in the world is Rainbow Bridge, and tour boats are available. Utah’s portion of Grand Canyon State Park contains the bit more secluded North Rim, providing breathtaking views. Cedar City is a cultural and shopping area, with the Utah Shakespearean Festival and the Historic Downtown Shopping District. Zion National Park has pools and waterfalls to complement the deep Zion Narrows canyon. St. George is blessed with a temperate climate and a number of golf courses with scenic views.
