Travel to Zambia / Zambia Vacation Rentals
Planning a Zambia vacation? With water in the forms of lakes, rivers, and falls, great flora and fauna, and lively music, dance, and arts, Zambia has something for everyone. Go exploring like Livingstone, and don’t get lost like he did, finding your Zambia vacation rental with ease.
Zambia Culture
Zambia is a true mix of indigenous and today’s more than seventy ethnic groups’ culture. Music plays a strong role in Zambian life: drumming can serve as part of a celebration or communication, but also Zambians incorporate instruments like hand piano and silimba. Dance, similarly, is the expression of both the positive and negative parts of life. Basket weaving comes from a variety of materials like liana vines and papyrus palm leaves, and both men and women participate in the art. Woodworking and pottery are also practiced crafts, and in the Luangwa Valley hand-painted textiles, full of detail, are exported worldwide.
Zambia Vacation Spots
Zambia contains 19 national parks and game reserves, a big reason to take a vacation here. South Luangwa is a premier wildlife park, with a heavy dose of animal life surrounding the Luangwa River. See the marvelous birds such as white and saddle-billed storks, ibises, cranes and pelicans flying over the Bangweulu Floodplains. The largest park in Zambia is the Kafue, where a number of landscapes make way for cheetahs, lions, jackals, and mongoose. Great fishing can be found in the Nsumbu National Park. Play a water sport or view game along the Zambezi River, running through six countries and very importantly through Zambia, since it is the source of Victoria Falls. A dam built on the Zambezi formed the man-made lake of Kariba, great for fishing species such as kapenta and tiger fish. Lake Bangweulu is another excellent fishing lake, with yellow belly, bream, and catfish as some of the catches, while its beauty rests with the lake waters blending into the gray-blue horizon.
Get lost in the ultimate beauty of Victoria Falls, a top-rated attraction in all of Africa. The water spray is easily visible for miles, and a great view can be had from the Victoria Falls Bridge, where seeing the depth of the gorge is possible. Walks are even available through a paved and easily navigable way through the rain forests that faces the falls. For hikers, try the Boiling Pot climb, ripe with more magnificent views of the Zambezi River coming over the cliff. Other waterfalls in Zambia add to the thunderous looks, including Ngonye Falls, also called Sioma Falls. Ngonye Falls are horseshoe-shaped, benefit from a tremendous amount of water flow, and have the Zambezi River flowing under the rock on both sides of the falls. Another very pretty waterfall is the Ntumbachushi Falls, where the main falls are generated from the line of water pools and rapids upstream. Chisimba Falls actually consist of three falls in succession, and a rain forest sits on the western bank of the river.
The capital city of Lusaka is a rather peppy city, with bustling markets selling everything from spare parts for vehicles to fish and fruit, and offering services such as hairdressing. The Lusaka National Museum contains Zambian art along with cultural exhibits explaining different aspects like witchcraft. Minutes from town lies a health and beauty spa specializing in holistic massage therapy and healing. Nightlife in the clubs and even at roadside shebeens hops to the beats of rumba and kwela as well as more contemporary sounds. Travel to a city retaining its adventurous character, Livingstone, and see the former glory evidence in the Edwardian-style buildings. The Livingstone Museum maintains the largest distinction in Zambia, and includes many exhibits in addition to a sizable memorabilia collection of the explorer David Livingstone. The adventure continues with a vast sampling of outdoor activities, ranging from gorge swinging and abseiling, to tandem kayaking for negotiating the rapids of the Zambezi.
The Copperbelt region of Zambia was once the source of prosperity, and reminders remain close with the Copperbelt Museum in Ndola, showing samples of the local minerals. Kitwe is actually the main base of the Copperbelt, and offers a number of guesthouses for vacation rentals, as well as mine tours and a marketplace selling copper goods and other arts. Chingola is graced with the presence of a number of attractive flowers and trees.
