Travel to Belize / Belize Vacation Rentals

Mayan ruins, water sports, the start of Punta Rock…where else but Belize vacation rentals? On the beach or in the frontier, your Belize vacation villa puts you in touch with a diverse culture at its best.

Belize Scuba, Snorkeling & The Barrier Reef

While there are many exciting things to do in Belize on land, the underwater experience can be quite impressive. Clear blue-green waters of delightful temperature, with visibility of over 100 feet make this part of the Caribbean Sea very appealing. The colors found in the water come from the varied tropical fish and coral formations. Large fish inhabit the Hol Chan Marine Reserve, such as barracuda and the shy nurse sharks. There are many cayes off of the Barrier Reef to select when planning to snorkel. One way to start a scuba trip is to rent a charter boat from one of the coastal dive resorts. Plunge in!

Belize Key Areas

The largest of all of the islands off of the Belize coast, Ambergris Caye vacation rentals are a premier destination for snorkelers and scuba divers. Nearby the caye is the legendary limestone Blue Hole, popularized by Jacques Cousteau. The small San Pedro Town, with streets of sand, has a variety of restaurants to please the palate – from local seafood and the national dish of chicken, rice, and beans to Mexican and Chinese cuisine. Often on Saturday nights, Belize musicians travel to the beaches for the open parties. Handmade crafts from local artists can be purchased from galleries and gift shops.

Historic Belize City offers tours of the old capital and some of the streets, with some of the locals selling goods while you tour.

The Cayo district is full of natural and man-made attractions, with plenty of jungle, cave systems, and Mayan ruins. Horseback riding is popular here in the west. A ferry trip brings vacationers to San Jose Succotz Village, the site of the Xunantunich Maya Ruin. The biggest archaeological site is Caracol, where a majestic pyramid called Caana provides an overview of the rest of the ruins and the surrounding forest full of flora and fauna. Ecotourism is at its peak in the pine ridge forest, where a variety of wildlife will entertain visitors. The sight-seeing on a Belize vacation is wondrous and seemingly never-ending!

Corozal is remembered for its Free Zone, where Belizeans cannot purchase goods, but Mexicans and tourists can purchase duty-free merchandise from a variety of large and small shops with plenty of brand names. The overall town lives a laidback lifestyle, and its ethnic culture is blended. For a “museum” of sorts with an exhibit of the history of the sugarcane industry and a hut, visit the renovated Customs house from the 1800’s with its prominent steeple.

Don't forget to visit Orange Walk District, whose pet name is Sugar City, on  your Belize vacation - it requires that visitors pay a small fee to enter. The New River Lagoon is full of lily pads on its surface and leads the way through a display of orchids and other flora/fauna into Lamanai, Mayan ruins right near a healthy forest reserve. Lamanai, containing one of the tallest Mayan buildings found and hundreds more buildings, is particularly good for all levels of birdwatching. Godoy’s Orchid Garden contains over 250 types of this flower and bromeliads, and snake cactus can be seen along the rout to Lamanai.

Located in southern Belize, the Stann Creek District contains the color-rich town of Dangriga. Dangriga has quite a bit of arts and culture to admire, and is a home to a number of Belize’s own painters. Dangriga is the birthplace of Punta Rock, based on the traditional rhythm found in the Garifuna people and adding an electric guitar sound to it. Quality folk bands can also be found here. Cassava bread is a traditional Garifuna food found in some of the small restaurants.

*Placencia is a peninsula of white-sand beaches, some surf, and clear water. Small resorts line the beaches, and those who kayak like to use the peaceful lagoon and are treated to seeing manatees. Fishing has become quite popular, with several types for novice through experienced fishing.

Toledo is a grand mix of culture and adventure, offering Mayan experiences, the jungles to explore, and sports like fly-fishing.
