vacation rental description

If location and nature are more important to you than having the perfect drive way or every possible amenity, this spot might be for you.  This is a rare, vintage cottage so you might find that it reminds you of your parent’s or grandparent’s cottage on the water somewhere.   It looks like a private retreat, yet only 10 minutes to town, colleges & malls.

Enjoy magnificent sunsets reflected in the lake with great blue herons and eagles gliding by.  Awake to songbirds in the woods or the soft conversation of fishermen floating by.  The perfect spot to view a thunderstorm coming down the lake and to make great, lasting vacation memories.

The “Yellow Cottage” is one level, wheelchair accessible, with a fenced rear patio and a large, covered front deck offering a magnificent view of the lake and its wondrous sunsets.  The broad front room has large, glass windows on three sides, a pull-out couch, and easy chairs.  The master bedroom has a double bed and the back bedroom has a roll-out day bed--a trundle bed that sleeps two on separate mattresses.

The tall trees, dirt road and old-fashioned structures give the place a sense of remoteness, though located within minutes of Cornell, downtown and the Ithaca malls. It is 5 miles north of Ithaca and only about 20 steps down to the Lake. There are train tracks along the shore--the salt train comes by rather slowly and infrequently.  The shoreline is strewn with flat pebbles which are ideal for skipping stones.

activities and attractions in Cayuga Lake Finger Lakes

Cayuga is the longest and next-to-deepest lake (475 feet) of the Finger Lakes Region in Upstate New York.  People say “Ithaca is Gorges” because of the many gorgeous geological formations in the area.  State Parks, special swimming spots, fine fishing and cool hiking trails abound.  Not to mention the many cultural and educational activities offered in nearby Ithaca.
There are many outdoor music concerts of all kinds every week in the summer season.

A large dock is directly in front of the cottage. A rowboat and canoe are available.  Kayaks are rentable in the surrounding area.  If you have a motorboat, it’s an easy ride to the Myer’s Park & Marina.  The Ithaca Yacht Club is across the Lake. It’s a little further to Taughannock Falls State Park (to the North across the lake) or to the Ithaca Inlet, Allen H. Treman State Park & Marina, and the lovely Stewart Park (to the South).  Ithaca’s wonderful Farmer’s Market is also accessible by boat on the Inlet. All within 5 miles by water!

This is a spot for the whole family to enjoy and create treasured memories.

Quotes from renters include: "It is so private and peaceful." "You weren't kidding when you said it was beautiful!" "That is an incredibly special spot, the cottage is delightful, and it is so nice that the character is being maintained on the end of that road, and indeed on the lake in general...the view to the north is just astounding!"

traveler reviews for this cayuga lake cottage rental

Great week!

Review submitted: August 9, 2011   Date of arrival: July 30, 2011

The property is located close to Cornell and shopping, and very private. It is rustic as described, but it was perfect for our family. The large porch overlooking the lake was perfect. The owner and agent couldn't have been nicer or more attentive. The lake is stony at this spot, but very swimmable with a nice dock, a float, a small rocky direct access and a clean, non-weedy bottom. We swam every day.

This is the day I came to the cabin and I loved it so far. I am sleeping in the bedroom across from the bathroom. The fishing is great. Me and my dad are goofballs.
