Located along the Sugar River on the edge of the Village of Albany, you'll find River Cottage, a fully refurbished 1912 craftsman cottage.

The eight room air conditioned cottage can easily accommodate 2 - 6 people.  A first floor bedroom includes a queen sized bed and attached private bath.  A queen sized luxury sleeper sofa is available for larger groups.  The second floor bedroom suite features a king sized bed, full bath and fireplace.

The cozy spa room on the first floor includes a double whirlpool tub and fireplace with comfortable lounge chairs to relax in.

Other features include a living room with satellite tv, dining room, and a three season porch.  The fully equiped kitchen has a dishwasher, refrigerator, stove, microwave, coffeemaker and toaster. Pots and pans, dishes and flatware are included. 

We provide sheets and towels.

The grounds offer a patio with a gas grill, and plenty of room for hammocks, volley ball, and croquet.

Activities in the area include two bicycle trails and canoeing, fishing, and tubing on the Sugar River.  Nearby Swiss communities of Monroe and New Glarus offer breweries, wineries, restaurants, and galleries.

Other local attractions include cheese factories and outlets, Amish stores, and antique malls.

Albany is an easy 1/2 hour drive south of Madison, WI.

Rental Policies:

Two night minimum, maximum occupancy six.  No unregistered guests without prior approval.

$300 damage deposit or credit card.  Plus 5.5% Wisconsin sales tax.

The perfect group getaway

This is a beautifully appointed bungalow, nestled in a quiet town in a scenic area of southern Wisconsin. Since I am familiar with this area I would not describe it as a "dying town" but yes, it is quiet. So if you are looking for nightlife it's probably not the destination for you.

But if you are looking to get away from a busy area (like Chicago in our case), the River Cottage is the perfect place to host friends and/or family for a restful vacation. We (5 adults) came here for a birthday celebration and some of our relatives were able to stay at Albany House across the street, which worked out perfectly. We had no trouble preparing and serving meals for everyone. The owners are very accommodating.

We mostly stayed on the property, but we did make some field trips to buy locally made/grown cheese, beer and produce. And we stopped on our drive up to get groceries, so we were all set. We all thought that the amenities in the house (and the grill outside) were exactly what we needed.

Did I mention how beautiful the house is? It's like something from a spread in House Beautiful magazine. And so comfortable!

I can't wait to find a new reason to return.

Recommended for: age 55+, girls getaway, romantic getaway

Beautiful vacation home in a dying town.

This home is stunningly renovated, appointed & furnished... except for some key smaller elements. Everything you could want in a vacation home... except for the kitchen amenities, home entertainment & the town in which it is located. The kitchen is tiny, poorly laid out, contains no counter space, a tiny stove & woefully inadequate cooking & baking tools. The owner isn't prepared for guests to actually cook multiple meals here despite the fact that there are no restaurants or grocery stores. There are no wine glasses, blender, electric mixer, pasta pot, larger serving bowls, plastic wrap, foil, basic spices, sugar, salt & pepper, casserole dishes, cookie sheet or 2-3 quart sauce pot to name a few missing items. There is also no radio, stereo or WI FI or internet connection. There were no kleenex, paper towels or napkins. On the plus side the house is sumptuous inside & out with excellent linens, furnishings, a delightful patio & all season front porch & a master suite & first floor tub room to die for. There is NO entertainment in Albany itself & New Glarus is 15-20 minutes away. We canoed a lovely stretch of the Sugar River & there is a bike trail in town that charges a fee for use. So keep these things in mind. The owners also have a fantastic B&B across the street, the Albany House. Both this property & the Albany House would be much more attractive in an area with greater immediate access to activities.

Recommended for: romantic getaway
