Just a short 5 minute walk to Willard Beach provides portage for kayaks, nearly a mile of walkable beach and a play area for children.  The Portland Head Light, one of Travel and Leisure's top ten best places to visit in the US, is a quick 1 mile trip down beautiful Shore Road. The two bedroom cottage includes a master with a queen size memory foam bed and a second bedroom with two twin beds.  A sofa sleeper brings the house capacity to six.  Bed and bath linens (including beach towels) are supplied in the rental. A full kitchen including all dishes, cookware and a microwave oven is provided. Yes, there is a lobster pot. They are mandatory in Maine! The walk out basement has great storage for skis, snowshoes and other outdoor equipment. We have put together a book of detailed information about the area and our favorite spots. These gems might otherwise go unnoticed when you are new to the area. Enjoy the morning sun and a cup of coffee on the front porch or relax in the adirondack chairs in the back yard.

Great house to base yourself whilst visiting the sites that Portland has to offer, really comfortable bed, great information provided in the handbook
Lovely bright and clean house

Owners response: Thank you! It makes us happy to know you are enjoying The Pilot House! We take great pride in making sure it's always clean and comfortable. We tune-up the house constantly. In addition you will find fast WIFI, A/C in the summer, a warm house in the winter, washer/dryer, grill, Adirondack chairs, big back yard and always clean duvet covers (you know the difference if you travel a lot). Never hesitate to ask us for information if you have any questions about The Pilot House or the surrounding area.

Wish we were still there!

Review submitted: August 27, 2013   Date of arrival: August 11, 2013

We loved everything about this house and the surrounding area of Portland and South Portland. The house had everything we needed and Patti and Britt were wonderful hosts! We took a boat tour in the Casco Bay, a trolley tour of downtown Portland, and a train ride up the coast! We walked to Willard Beach and stopped at Willard Scoops on our way back for some ice cream. We absolutely enjoyed every minute spent in Maine. We even took a day trip to Mt. Washington (about 2 hours away) and had snow flurries!! We will definitely be back to Maine one day, and would rent this home again in a heartbeat! Thank you for opening your home up so we could have this amazing vacation! :)

Owners response: It was a pleasure to have you here! We are so impressed with your explorations. This area has so much to offer. The Pilot House is situated in the popular Willard Beach neighborhood. The location is a perfect starting point for your daily excursions. It's also a place where you don't need a car for every errand. It's easy to get around by foot or bike and you will meet many friendly neighbors enjoying their community.

Quaint Portland House by the Beach

Review submitted: June 9, 2013   Date of arrival: June 4, 2013

Great stay at the Pilot House. The location is great: a short walk to the beach and easy access to the main attractions. The house was stocked with all the essentials and then some--which was great when we cooked some our Maine lobsters. The only drawback was the bathroom. Although it was recently updated, it was very cramped. There was no real division between the toilet and the shower, which was a little awkward. Not a huge deal for us. Other than that, it was a great stay. Thanks!

Owners response: Thank you for the five stars!
Many older homes have challenging spaces. This house was built 1920. We agree, the bathroom is small. We couldn't make
it bigger, but we did create a modern room. A glass vessel sink, heated floor, mosaic glass tiles on all walls and a rain
shower make it inviting and functional.
The lobster pot is required equipment in a Maine kitchen. You can also have your fresh lobsters cooked in the store and
enjoy them on our patio surrounded by lobster traps.
