vacation rental description
This property is named Agave Lane because the entrance road is lined with grand agave plants. If one happens to visit in late spring you’ll see the towering 15 foot yellow agave blooms swarming with honey bees. The feel of peace and tranquility begins to hover as you drive down this lane. It’s a perfect location for a Family Retreat, Small Business Seminars, Honeymooners, Reunions, Writers, or Artists. Wedding venues such as Chapel Dulcinea, Salt Lick and Creekside are within 5 minutes away. Several wineries are under a 20 minute drive. Upon arrival at the late 1800’s remodeled ranch house you’ll see the art studio. Parking can be at the studio or under the private carport by the home. Enter through the kitchen door, as one does in most old ranch houses.
The first rooms are the fully stocked kitchen and the COWBOY DINING ROOM, complete with a fireplace. Dines with 8 persons comfortably. The glass doors lead out to a patio with a barbeque picnic area. This is a nice setting to have morning coffee and tea or happy hour in the evening. Around 7 am you may see the bachelor herd of 6 whitetail deer come in for a cool drink of water in the corral area by the barn.
Back inside, go into the hall past a Laundry Room (complete with washer and dryer) and enter the Piano Room. This area also doubles as a sitting room to enjoy some reading from the small library. The room theme is Asian. Its walls are decorated with a series of stone rubbings from Taiwan. The picture window looks onto the patio and corral.
To the left of the piano room is another hallway. When entering, one sees library shelves with interesting books, wood carvings, unique rocks, and antiques. To the right are the 24” thick walls which resemble whip cream. This is part of the original structure that was the main room of the home in the 1880’s. This Living Room is called the Arrowhead Room. You’ll relax on comfy lazy boy recliners or black leather sofas. American Indian art and arrowheads are throughout the room. Also, in the room is a flat screen TV, Entertainment Center with DVD Player, Netflix, Stereo, and PlayStation II. Windows cover the back wall giving you a view of the 500 year old oak, a sprawling back yard, and a Hill Country view. When looking out at the oak one feels the utter peace and “MAGIC” that often describes this property.
Leaving the living room, make a right onto the red tile floors and down the stairs. You’ll enter the 50 foot Sun Porch with opened screened windows. The left end is captured by a forty year old Rubber Tree and the right end is shaded by a twelve foot tall Fishtail Fern. There are wrought iron chairs, a table, and sofa for relaxation. This room is also a wonderful place to have tea and morning coffee or evening drinks. The feeders in the yard are usually busy with various birds common to Texas. The Pisano or Road Runner jots around in the yard at intervals during the day. One looks out at the pool, play scape, the old oak, and deer feeder, along with a Hill Country view. Outside the porch door to the right is a patio and UNIQUE ROCK GARDEN with a small path. This garden is a thrill for rock collectors. Go back into the porch to the far end through the sliding door to enter the pool area.
To the bedrooms take the red tiled floor, turn right and enter a long hallway that will lead to the bedrooms and bathrooms. All the way down to the end is Bedroom #1, which has an outdoor feel. Its decor is a WILD DUCK THEME. This colorful, muted green room could be considered the master suite. A private bathroom with a shower, king size bed, flat screen TV, computer connections, desk, and an outside door to the pool make this room very coveted.
Bedroom #2 is named the Rose Room. The room is sunny and cheerful. A marble surrounded working fireplace, floral artwork and china plates, and of course, rose printed bed comforters decorate this room. There is a Sun Room/Nursery which is filled with toys and a crib. This room can accomodate a Queen Pop up Bed. The sun room has an exit to the pool area. A private bathroom is across the hall.
Bedroom #3 has the feel of Africa. The shelves and walls are decorated with African art. A gemsbok rug hugs the floor. A windowed wall overlooks the long sun porch, yard, and Hill Country view. There is WIFI AND A FLAT SCREEN TV. This spacious room could also accommodate a Queen Pop Up Bed. A bathroom is across the hall.
The POOL AREA is overlooked by a ROCK GARDEN. The garden provides you with brilliant Pride of Barbados in the summer months. The children's play scape is a short distance. Two tables with chairs, and two lounge chairs surround the pool.
The owners live close by on the property. Guests have very adequate privacy.
My parents purchased the hill country property in 1963 and moved from St. Louis Mo to retire and ranch as a hobby. They have sinced passed away, but I and my wife, Ann, continue in our retirement years to enjoy the property in the same manner as my parents did. Feeding the catfish, enjoying the wildlife, and hiking are among the favorite pastimes. Of course, having a glass of wine while we take in the brilliant Texas sunset is at the top. After dinner, Ann has a blast putting out scraps by the birdbath and waiting for the racoons, fox, or skunks to come. Friends and family have been encouraging us for years to offer the home as a vacation rental. They describe our place as magical and oh so peaceful. Someone remarked how they loved the squeek of the screen door, because it reminded them of their grandmother's home.
Parts of the home date back to the 1800's. The house was renovated in 2001. It makes a unique rental because of the 49 acres surrounding it , the live creek, the close proximity to Austin, the highland lakes ,and the hill country surrounding Austin.
Guests are free to fish in the creek provided they adhere to the catch and release policy. The 49 acres may be used for Jogging, Mountain Bike Riding , Birding , or just Casual Walks to observe the wildlife. The country character of the home along with the owner's antiques and collections gives a warm and comfortable feeling to the guests.
