Drummond Island vacation rentals

Drummond Island is located in Chippewa County and lies one mile off the eastern tip of Michigan's Upper Peninsula. It is second largest fresh water island in the nation and has been nicknamed "Michigan's Ultimate Playground." The island is comprised of 83,000 acres — 150 miles of rugged shoreline, 133 square miles of forest, and 34 inland lakes.  Recreational activities include U.S. World Class kayaking, fantastic birding, hiking, biking, and one of the largest closed loop trail systems for off road vehicles in the country. Drummond Island is a prime fishing location, with smelt, yellow perch, walleye, northern pike, smallmouth bass, herring, salmon, and trout as the primary catches.  Sailing is a very popular activity here, with opportunities to sail around other islands in the area. Drummond Island is also known as a place where one can hunt for the elusive morel mushroom, a prized delicacy. The island has both the white and black morel varieties, and the best time to look for them is in May. The Drummond Island Township Park & Heritage Trail offers a beach with shallow waters where you can walk to a neighboring island, camping facilities, and the trail which is utilized for hiking, biking snowshoeing, snowmobiling, cross-country skiing, and nature walks, as the trail is rich in wildlife in every season — look for whitetail deer, forest birds, and waterfowl and loons on the bay. Drummond Island is a popular hunting destination, with hunters searching for whitetail deer, partridge, hares, and waterfowl. Seventeen different shipwrecks can be viewed in the waters surrounding the island, and guided diving tours are available. Golfers can enjoy the gorgeous championship course called The Rock, carved out of 400 acres of hardwood, cedar, and limestone. The Drummond Island Historical Museum is constructed with hand-hewn logs from the island and features collections of artifacts from Native Americans, Finnish farmers, and Yankee settlers. Many Drummond Island Vacation Rentals are available and are a great way to avail yourself of the best Drummond Deals. Additional Drummond Savings can be had by obtaining Drummond Last Minute Deals.
