Elk Lake vacation rentals

Elk Lake is a small settlement along the shores of Elk Lake in the northern part of the state of Michigan, abutting the village of Elk Rapids. The area was first home to Native Americans known as the Anishinabek, who lived there long before the first European settlers arrived. Legend has it that Abram Wadsworth, a government surveyor, discovered a pair of elk horns in the rapids near the mouth of Elk River in 1847 and thus coined the name of both the river and the lake. The lake is about a mile and a half wide and nine miles long with a maximum depth of 192 feet, making it Michigan's second deepest after Torch Lake. It is a popular spot for fishing, featuring lake trout, rock bass, yellow perch, smallmouth bass, muskellunge, ciscoes, brown trout, rainbow trout, and whitefish. The lake is known for its amazing clear blue waters, which have been referred to as “Caribbean-like.” The village of Elk rapids is quite small,  covering only one square mile, but there are two nice parks, Memorial Park and Antrim County Park, each offering several hundred feet of shoreline for swimming and relaxing along the eastern shore of Elk Lake. The Elk Rapids Historical Museum is housed on the lower level of the old Elk Rapids Township Hall, and features many exhibits, including replicas of the township’s 1883 jail and the Elk Rapids iron works. Vintage clothing and antique tools are also on display. Elk Lake Vacation Rentals are great for the budget-conscious traveler and are one of the best methods of securing Elk Lake Deals.
