Atlantic Highlands vacation rentals
Atlantic Highlands is a Borough in Monmouth County, New Jersey in the Bayshore Region, which is located in the east central region of the state. The town overlooks where the Atlantic Ocean and Raritan Bay meet at Sandy Hook, and its hills mark one of the highest points on the eastern seaboard of the U.S. Atlantic Highlands has a large park system with eight town-owned parks and two county operated parks. One of larger town-owned parks is Lenape Woods, offering approximately 51 acres of natural woodlands with hiking trails, and freshwater wetlands that are the headwaters to Many Mind Creek. The Atlantic Highlands Municipal Harbor has a public boat launch ramp, tennis courts, playgrounds, a fishing pier, and charter boats for deep sea fishing. Catches include blackfish, ling, cod, flounder, fluke, bluefish, striped bass, and weakfish. The charter boats will take you into deep waters to hunt for shark. Monmouth County operates two parks in the town, the Henry Hudson Trail and Mount Mitchill Scenic Overlook. The Henry Hudson Trail is a paved, 10-foot wide, 22-mile long trail that is a former railroad right-of-way and now is used by hikers, bikers, in-line skaters, and horseback riders. The Mount Mitchill Scenic Overlook is 266 feet high, providing beautiful views of Sandy Hook, Sandy Hook Bay, Raritan Bay, and the New York City skyline. This 12-acre site is also home to Monmouth County's 9/11 Memorial, featuring a path leading to the memorial that chronicles the 9/11 events in a timeline. The memorial itself is a table of black granite listing the names, ages, and towns of those 147 Monmouth County residents who were lost.
