Vacation Rentals in Fire Island, New York
fire island accomodation guide
Looking for weekend accommodations in Fire Island? Then you're looking for quite the esacpe! There aren't paved roads here, and cars are not welcome - Fire Island beach houses really take you away from the so-called "hustle and bustle" of city life. However, because of this, you'll want to plan your trip ahead of time, and maybe even rent a bicycle! (Also: make sure to bring cash, many places don't take plastic!)
Fire Island vacation rentals go dormant for the winter, but by the time Memorial Day rolls around, they're filled with sun seekers. That's because the top attraction in this New York town is the beach. Besides the usual coastal activities - fishing, boating, swimming - Fire Island is a hot spot for clamming and surfing. Watch Hill and its boardwalk give great access to the Fire Island National Seashore, and is tourist-friendly. Ocean Beach Village is where the locals hang out, but if you abide by basic rules like no littering, you can participate in the fun, too. Ocean Bay Park is another great spot for sightseeing. Meanwhile, there's Cherry Grove and Fire Island Pines, two famously gay-friendly communities. Also, don't miss out on the beautiful Fire Island Lighthouse in Robert Moses State Park. But the biggest "Must See" for guests of Fire Island accommodations is the 40-acre maritime Sunken Forest (in Sailors' Haven). 200-year-old trees, all kinds of holly berry, and plenty of birds are on display here.
Fire Island cabins and homes offer up a pretty private experience if you want them to, and those who visit the beach town like it that way. That means you'll want to choose the community you stay in carefully - if you're traveling with kiddos, consider family-friendly rentals in Kismet or Fair Harbor. If you like to keep to yourself, head to Davis Park.
Book a rental in a community that suits your travel style, and you'll be set. And remember, Fire Island vacation rentals are an attraction all by themselves. From scenic patios to hot tubs to satellite TV, you'll have everything you need at all times. (Which comes in handy when you don't have a car!)

fire island vacation deals
Look for last minute deals, cancellation specials, and unique offers on Fire Island beach houses before booking your stay. Even if you can't find a deal, though, you'll still get more value from a rental than you would from a hotel. That's because Fire Island cabins and homes offer up a lot more space and amenities for a lot less. If you're traveling with your family, it just doesn't make sense to cram into one small hotel room, or book multiple, small hotel rooms. Instead, spread out in a beautiful and luxurious Fire Island vacation home - for the same price as a hotel room!
Another way to keep your vacation on a budget is to visit Fire Island on week days and non holidays, when things are a little slower and quieter. Summertime is peak travel time no matter how you slice it, but visiting on Memorial Day or on a weekend guarantees more crowds and higher prices (on everything from restaurants to accommodations).
Fire Island lodging can be booked at nightly, weekend, or weekly rates. Hint: the longer you stay, the more money you'll save!
