Little Reef’s incredible photographs do not do that view, from your dining room and bedroom....justice. The whole back of the apartment faces the ocean, just open the sliding doors and you are completely enveloped in the sights and sounds of paradise. We had completed all kinds of research on the places in Barbados we HAD to see, but being faced with our “backyard” each morning turned out to be the ruin of our sightseeing plans. Grantley opened the sliding doors in the dining room for us when we arrived, and we never closed them again until our taxi back to the airport beeped his horn to let us know he had arrived.
Fitts Village is lovely and tiny. We visited the Jordan’s supermarket (5 minute walk-take the beach) and Wendy’s sportsbar. The apartment is on Highway 1 and the bus running from Bridgetown in the south up to Speightstown (through Holetown) in the North passes by all day long. Whenever we did pull ourselves away (usually in the evening after sundown) we took the busses. We never waited as long as 5 minutes for a bus. Sometimes there was seating, sometimes we stood but it was always pleasant fast and cheap.
The road is noisy, the second bedroom and kitchen are on the road-side of the apartment. You could elect to let it bother you or you could do as we did and just have an extra rum punch before turning in for the evening...leave the sliding door open and let the waves lull you to sleep. We had a Bluetooth speaker with us and never suffered from the road noise.
The apartment had everything we needed except two things. No salt and pepper (or any other kitchen seasoning), and this next one is huge: bug repellent! Bring bug spray with you if you aren’t absolutely certain that you will make it to Jordan’s (to buy some) before night fall. We didn’t know. We were mesmerized by the view, pinching ourselves at our luck for being there when suddenly the pinching wasn’t self inflicted anymore. Every evening around dusk mosquitoes and no-see-ems descend no matter where you are on the island. You DO NOT want to face them unprotected! Happily a spray at the anointed second they descend and a second one before turning in is all you need...but you DO need it.
While we were there, a monkey visited the tree outside the bedroom window and a sea turtle was spotted right off our beach. We met so many amazingly lovely locals, cooked-in and ate out. Take a snorkel trip (we did El Tigre), put on a mask, and swim off the beach. It truly is paradise!
