I traveled solo to Vancouver and stayed with Ali. The bedroom was adequately sized and had its own minifridge and some other niceties.
I happened to stay during a few unseasonably warm days/nights, so it could get a bit warm at night, but keeping the window open worked alright for me. There is a fire station around the corner and it is downtown, so it was a bit noisy at night sometimes. I kept a track of white noise playing and that helped.
Ali was very hospitable and welcoming. He had to work from the house while I was there, but tried to keep his calls/printing quiet during the evenings/nights.
The location itself was perfect for visiting elverything I wanted to see downtown. I walked everywhere for the most part and rented a bike nearby and spent an entire day in Stanley park, before heading back to crash at Ali's place. There's great food all around, too, including Le Crocodile, which directly downstairs, if you're feeling a bit spendy.
Thanks again, Ali!
