  • Quiet Cottage with Beautiful Veranda Views
    5 of 5

While this quiet little cottage lays to the north of the more traveled areas of wine country, we found it a perfect launching point for our "Girls Week" in wine country. The cottage itself was very well kept and had all the amenities that we could have wanted for a nice relaxing week of wine tasting, cooking, and catching up with good friends. Everything was very clean when we arrived. The kitchen was also well equipped, which was nice as we prepared most of our evening meals at the cottage. We settled in very nicely for our week there. Our favorite spot was the veranda on the back side of the cottage that overlooked the vineyard. We have coffee and breakfast there every morning and often spent so long sitting, talking and enjoying the view, that we got a late start to our wine tasting plans on more than one day we were there. Another benefit of the cottage is that the owners will consider pets, which allowed me to bring along my little pug who loved being able to spend vacation with us, as well. The owner good not have been nicer. She gave us the lay of the land the first night and was very attentive to anything we might need. As for the area, the cottage lays square between Ukiah and Hopland one of the back roads, which made it ideal for our morning bike rides. And as we were there shortly before harvest time, you got to have the lovely smell of grapes accompany us on our rides. (Although if you do plan to bike, be aware that there are no real shoulders to the road. However, we did find the traffic, of which there was not a lot, to be very polite about sharing the road with us.) The other advantage of the area that the cottage is within ~10-20 min drive of multiple wineries in Mendocino County. These wineries are not ones that you'll find in any supermarket, but they are of very good quality and all the people there were amazingly friendly. They are well worth the trip of the beaten path! And again, you could easily bike the ~30 minutes from the cottages to the wineries that are in the quaint little one lane town of Hopland! Also, it is only ~45 minute drive to the start of Russian River Valley and the Dry Creek wine areas near Healdsburg. We spent multiple days tasting in that area and found no problem commuting the 101 between the two (just be sure you designate a driver). Overall, I would defiinitely recommend this rental to anyway looking for a mellow get away in wine country.
