  • We just love la Petite Gite
    5 of 5

We’ve stayed in the Petite Gite several times, with family and friends, and we are eagerly anticipating our return this summer.  The location is charming and serene. Set in acres of forest, on an acre of lawn, it is a peaceful, quiet haven.  Great walks, bike rides, lunches under the chestnut trees, and impromptu visits to the beach 20 minutes away.  The house itself is very comfortable, clean, warm and cool as appropriate (fireplace included!), meticulously maintained, well appointed, and a delight for us.  The village of Moutiers-les-Mauxfaits, a few minutes away, provides food shopping, including an open market in the 15th century restored “halle” and a monthly fair. Local attractions include 12th century churches, menhirs, dolmens, and other paleolithic sites, local chateaux, open air markets, and good seafood restaurants at the beach. Farther afield there are the cities of Les Sables d’Olonne, Nantes, La Rochelle, and Rochefort, the chateaux at Terre Neuve and La Chabotterie, and medieval abbeys at Maillezais and Nieul sur l'Autise. The worst drawback?  Finding the International Herald Tribune requires a 15-minutes drive! Tom and Susan Luten - Maui, Hawaii
