This cottage was exactly what we wanted! We stayed here for three weeks in October to give my husband an opportunity to spend some time around Champigny-sur-Veude where he grew up. It was close enough to walk to Chinon yet far enough away to enjoy the peace and quiet. We explored the countryside, visited wineries, and went for long walks. The home was comfortable and well-stocked with everything we needed. The owners were very friendly and helpful and they were prompt in returning our deposit after we left. We plan to return to the area in two years and will definitely try to stay here again. I highly recommend it.
Having rented many homes before through VRBO or Homeaway, I found this property to be among the best in quality, equipment and general welcome. The home itself is well-furnished, tastefully decorated and generally exactly what you see in the photos.
The owners are very friendly, helpful and welcoming to guests. They strive to make everything just as you want it. The gardens provide a quiet sanctuary for relaxing.
The environment is interesting, ancient, beautiful and historical. The numerous chateaux in the area, and all along the Loire, welcome visitors with their magnificent gardens, appropriately furnished rooms and their historical information...each one quite different from the next. I particularly enjoyed Villandry and Clos Luce, which has a wonderful display of the many inventions of Leonardo da Vinci. We learned of the writer, Rabelais, by visiting the farm where he was born. His learning, following many paths like medicine, biology, religion, struck us as being very interesting.
The little village of Huismes, while peaceful and picturesque, offers little in terms of groceries or reataurants, but the nearby bakery is wonderful for picking up your daily baguette. A short drive to Chinon satisfies your other needs.
The owners have a cat on the premises, and although I am a great cat-lover, he chose to bite me, so I suggest caution.
On the whole, I would highly recommend this welcoming home to anyone who wishes for a quiet retreat not far from many chateaux and wineries. The owners are exceptionally warm and accommodating.
