  • A fabulous place to centre yourselves in Provence

Pernes-les-Fontaines is a wonderful medieval village, situated perfectly in the middle of Provence. We stayed at Le Galerie, a fantastic cottage situated in the middle of the old walled village. The cottage covers three floors, the first having the master bedroom with master bathroom and a fully equipped large laundry area, Go up a spiral staircase to the kitchen, dining and living room, with a powder room off the foyer. The kitchen was brilliantly equipped, there was a TV, DVD player, DVD's in French and English, books, a phone etc. On the top floor you find another Queen sized room, a single room, a living room with a fold out sofa and another bathroom. There is a delightful balcony where you can sit and watch the passing parade with your vin, your fromage and your cachuterie! The cottage was immaculately clean and tidy, with plenty of linen and towels available. The hosts had put together an amazing collection of information on what to do and where to go in the immediate and extended Provencal area. We used their guide to places 90 minutes from Pernes-les-Fontaine and managed to see so much of Provence and go to little out of the way places that we would have missed otherwise. On Saturdays there is a market at the end of the street, along the riverside. There are restaurants within very easy walking distance, galleries and of course, a lot of fountains! We can't wait to come back and see those parts of Provence that we missed this time.

  • Wonderful Place, Great People

We feel like we really lucked out picking this VBRO. Not only was the place spectacular, the hosts were fabulous. Upon our arrival Cathy and Rene greeted us, showed us the apartments and provided us with snacks and drinks. They were such wonderful hosts that we felt like good friends when we left this place one week later. They were not intrusive but when we sought them out, were a delight to get to know and so very helpful in terms of recommending sites to see and information about local places to visit. In addition to being interesting and friendly, they also helped us out when we experienced a serious issue with our vehicle. Since we couldn’t speak French, Rene helped us with all the negotiations for the repairs and drove us around while Cathy made sure we didn’t go hungry. She is a fabulous cook by the way! As you can see, our hosts went far above and beyond what you would experience in a typical VBRO. We enjoyed a lovely dinner with them on our last evening before leaving and we felt sad when our week here was over. The garden of this VBRO is definetely worth a mention. It is absolutely lovely. It is situated along the bank of a small river and is about as zen a place as you can get. Bubbling brooks, fish ponds, roses, beautiful trees, birds and even peacocks adorn this lovely place. The apartments are very well appointed, very clean and were perfect for us. We were here with two adult couples, so each couple had an apartment with a master bedroom, own bathroom as well as kitchen and living room areas. The best part was the lovely terrace overlooking the garden where we shared a lot of laughs and a few good drinks. Rene kept the pool in excellent shape and we enjoyed one day of sunshine and swimming there. It is very private and also very relaxing. I would strongly recommend this VBRO for anyone looking for an experience that is beyond a typical hotel. We will never forget our wonderful vacation here.
