Nice village, good starting point for trips into the surrounding area. Even in mid-August, it was possible to find peace and quiet - not in the restaurants, though, where it is highly advisable to make reservations. The apartment has all you can ask for, and everything was in good condition and clean. Free public parking is close. The bikes are a plus we appreciated.. The staircase between the 1st and 2nd floor might be a problem for some people, we (60+) could still manage. Note that the toilet is on the first floor, not on the same level as the bathroom and the sleeping room. Owners very nice and helpful. If we come back to this area, the apartment will be on our list!

The first thing I must comment on is that we got lost coming into Rochefort but Christophe and Nell, the owners of the apartment, were wonderful. He came out from his busy restaurant to find us and guide us to the apartment. We stayed there at the start of July. We found the little apartment had been supplied with most things you needed. Nell was great.... for example she helped us understand the washing machine etc. She spoke good English and nothing was too much trouble. The apartment location was good for all the naval history sites and within walking distance of the town centre. We also found we could get to La Rochelle in about half an hour by car. We went to the aquarium there which we highly recommend. The restaurant next door is run by Christophe and Nell, very handy if you do not want to cook. There was no fan provided so bring your own if it looks like hot weather; we did. The view from from the window of the marina was great. The chairs and beds were comfortable. A good place for a short stay.
