The hosts could not have been more attentive, lovely people, the first 2 days needed them to come by and show us how to use tv and blowdryer and they came immediately! They left us wine, beer and bottled water otherwise the house has everything except a clothes dryer. It’s such an historic house huge wooden beams and stone. -felt like I was living in a castle ! Bakery 1 minute away- was like a dream being in Claude’s home.

  • Gorgeous flat on the enchanting Place aux Herbes - great base for touring Provence.

This flat could not have been more perfect. Comfort and style in this spacious, sweet flat perfectly sited overlooking a quiet corner of the Place aux Herbes. Fun activity out the living room windows when the market is setting up on Saturday and Wednesday, and great access to picnic supplies, and yet the flat is silent at night. So cozy, with great heating (we visited in a sunny, mild week in October), a fabulous shower, great laundry facilities, a kitchen with everything you could want. My husband grabbed the white chair and settled in after a day touring Provence. We truly looked back at the flat as we were leaving with great fondness. There are wonderful restaurants, bakeries, and shops a few minutes walk away. Don't miss the superb boulangerie La Fougasse D'Uzès (just get in the line!) and the sweet butcher shop Martinélli Jean-François, and that gelato store right across from the front door. We used the flat in Uzès - such a pretty and peaceful town - as our base to take day trips out to Nîmes (with its Roman arena, majestic Maison Carree, and friendly old town), Saint-Remy-de-Provence (where Van Gogh was hospitalized and painted many works), Les Baux-de-Provence (like a Disney fairy tale town, in a good way), Avignon (with its carousel and Popes Palace and famous bridge and walled city), Arles (pretty town, again much Van Gogh history here), a quick zip down to Marseille, and back to the nearby Pont du Gard (three-level arched Roman aqueduct, stunning at sunset and when they light it at night). Dominique was great about recommending the Parking Gide easy payment card for our week. Only one thing not to like about Uzès: that the lovely people let their lovely dogs leave the most unlovely droppings on the cobblestone streets. Ah well. The town does extra duty cleaning the streets daily.
