I had business in Dillenburg, and was told to stay in Herborn. I had trouble finding a hotel, so I thought I'd check VRBO. I found this lovely house right in the heart of it all. I was able to bring my wife on this trip, as our anniversary was during the same week. Sonja was nice enough to meet us at the house and show us around. She left us a bottle of wine, fresh berries and chocolates around the house. I had to work everyday, but my wife was able to walk around Herborn and see the sights and shop and eat in the many stores that the town has to offer. Herborn is a neat town. It doesn't have much going on after 7pm, but there are a few bars open, and a Bistro about 60 feet from the front door of the house.
About the house, I wasn't quite sure what to expect when we arrived. I think Sonja said the house was about 450 years old. It had really cool architecture. Everything is up. The ground level has a flight of stairs up to the first floor, which houses the kitchen and half bath. The kitchen was very nice, and she has several amenities for you to use such as coffee grinder, maker, toaster, fridge, stove. Go up a spiral staircase to the next floor, and you're in the Living Room. Beautifully decorated, with a TV. Next floor, a parlor room and the main bathroom. The bathroom was very nice. The tub didn't have much hot water coming from the spray nozzle, but the faucet did. The shower is lovely, but there isn't a shower curtain, so you have to be careful not to get water all over a wood cabinet she has sitting next to it. I placed a towel over it to keep it safe, and showered in the corner of the shower. Not really sure why it is like that, but it is still very nice nonetheless.
The last and highest floor is the bedroom. It has the beautiful king bed there. I must warn you, if you can't handle stairs because you're elderly or clumsy, don't rent this. This has more stairs than you could handle. The stairs spiral around on a few floors, so the stairs are wider on the outside and shallow on the inside. The stairs going up to the bedroom are very steep. If you have good footing and are careful, no problem. My wife tried going down them in socks, and she fell down a flight of stairs. That was the only negative we had, but it caught her by surprise, so what do you do.
Overall, we really enjoyed our trip to Europe, and I would stay here again. I hope to be back sometime in the near future! Thanks again!!!
