  • Beautiful, private retreat in the Tuscan hills

My husband and I stayed at this little villa for a week in September. Daniela was a pleasure to work with and gave us much useful information about the area when we arrived. Her office is in the village of Montescudaio, less than a km away. The cottage is charming and set on a hill overlooking the olive trees and, in the distance, the sea. Not much is available in the village itself - you have to drive about 10 k to Cecina for groceries if you wish them. From the cottage you can drive within an hour to many locations in Tuscany. We went to Pisa, Lucca, Volterra, Bolgheri and south along the sea coast as well. The location and the setting are excellent. Inside the cottage everything is well laid out in a small space including a fully equipped kitchen and a handy washing machine. The sitting area is furnished with a day bed and since the cottage is really designed for two people, we found that a small sofa would have been infinitely more comfortable for sitting inside in the evenings. The bed was also very hard (and we are used to a firm mattress!) and some better pillows could certainly have helped earn this place five stars. Our week here was sandwiched between three days in Florence and three days in Venice and it was a restful, private retreat in a beautiful setting - great value for the price!
