  • Perfect apartment, just as advertised.

This apartment was very quiet and set well away from the city streets. Everything about the apartment was just as advertised, and the hosts were quite helpful concerning the area attractions and places to eat. The unit had air conditioning, which helped sleeping, and a washer/dryer. This is a great place to stay, and close to Bologna, Ravenna, and the Republic of San Marino. Faenze has a fabulous ceramics museum also. I highly recommend this apartment and this location for your trip to Italy.

  • Beauty, seclusion, kind hospitality on farm in glorious countryside near Ravenna

We loved our stay in Monte Spada! When we arrived, our host, Matteo Bolognesi, helped us carry our suitcases up the second floor apartment. The view of the surrounding vineyards and fields in the late afternoon light was so entrancing that it took a while for us to stop leaning out the windows and appreciate the nicely outfitted kitchen and sitting area and fireplace and the spiral staircase up to the bedroom and bath. Our host provided welcoming gifts of bread, coffee, milk and his own honey and fragrant olive oil, fresh cherries, and fava beans. Then he encouraged us to drive back the few kilometers to Zattaglia, for the Cinghiale Festival for a memorable plate of tagliatelle with wild boar ragu (and an even more memorable rescue from a disastrous parking mistake by generous festival goers). Throughout our 10-day stay, Matteo answered our every question helpfully, brought us his freshly made, warm piadini and invited us to help ourselves to the herbs in his garden. We slept well in the comfortable bed, awakening to a dawn chorus of many bird voices. We walked the well-marked trails surrounding Monte Spada, made several excursions to the lovely medieval town of Brisighella (so close and so intriguing), and explored Faenza with its enormous ceramics museum and sweeping central piazza. Matteo also introduced us to the best guide we’ve ever met anywhere, Giovanni Giglio, who made the mosaics and history of Ravenna come alive for us with his erudition and narrative flair. We left Monte Spada with regret and remember it with sighing affection. Gracie mille, Matteo!
