We had a great time in this house. Magnificent view on Lago d'Idro, great swimming and canoeing. Lots of space in the house, two terraces, with or without sunshine, great shower, everything you need in the kitchen, et cetera
It was lovely to swim in the lake every day and jump off the pontoon. The house though small is nice and friendly to all ages. I love the terrace and the view. (Ellie, age 7)
Best feature of house the terrace facing east across the lake, completely secluded. You can eat outside even if it's raining as long as it stays warm.
Galley kitchen about par for holiday house good cooker, enough storage (with a bit of rearranging). Why no lids for saucepans? A kettle would have been nice (especially for Brits) also a small sharp paring knife and some kitchen scissors. Fridge only has small freezer compartment. None of these small defects bothered us much.
No Wi-Fi in house relied on smartphone for internet (reception generally OK). A DVD player would be good for rainy afternoons we brought DVDs which children watched on laptop.
The owner's daughter met us and showed us round and was really friendly and helpful.
The lake is very close -- ideal for our children (ages 9 and 7). Swimming is best in the morning in the afternoon the wind gets up then around early evening it calms down again. We were there in mid-August and it rained four days out of the six we were there, but we still enjoyed the lake and the fabulous view. There's a pedalo which you get to use two days (it's shared with other properties) -- but beware as it's quite heavy to haul back up onto the shore!
Not much noise -- you can hear some traffic from main road but nothing to alarm a city dweller. No mosquitoes (to our surprise too high up?) and only the odd midge. We brought loads of insect repellent which went virtually unused.
Access is tricky and it's not a place to pop in and out of in the car a narrow road with hairpin bends leads down to the property, but parking when you get there is no problem. Basically we stayed put and shopped locally in Ponte Caffaro. The only excursion we made was to Bagolino in the hills above us--again a bit of a hairy drive, but we are timid souls. The views from Bagolino are tremendous. Rocca d'Anfo close by looks like an interesting place to visit but we missed it because it's only open at weekends and we didn't realize till too late.
It's ideal for a holiday if you want peace and quiet it wouldn't be a great base for excursions.
