Did we win the lodging lottery when selecting this listing for our last night in Japan after 3 weeks? Yes!! Yamamoto-san was in all ways a most wonderful host. He coordinated via email with me prior to our arrival, confirming he'd pick up my three kids, hubby and I from the Yamachita train station. We had traveled ALL day on trains (12 hours across Honshu, from Iwakuni to Hiroshima to Osaka to Tokyo to Chiba to Yamachita) and having a ride to his brand new, GORGEOUS guest house in the countryside was DIVINE. We picked up dinner and breakfast items at the Lawson across the street from the station after speaking with him upon our arrival (a big relief to hear his voice and assurance that he'd arrive in 15 minutes.)
The guest house is next to his home and he asked us to ring the bell if we needed anything. The bamboo forest and sounds of nature outside our bedroom balcony were just perfect to unwind and relax after a long day. That was after several of us enjoyed the very large ofuro (bath) inside the home: we felt like we were at an onsen again with the DEEP tub, shower/cleansing area and sounds of insects outside all around. PERFECT.
We ate dinner (the kitchen had EVERYTHING our family needed), bathed and slept like babies in this tranquil setting.
The morning of our departure to the USA, we woke up at 0530, made coffee, ate breakfast and rang bell at Yamamoto-san's home at 0630. The house is located 22 km from Narita airport so he had us there by 0715 after we got car loaded. The ride to Narita offered a view of taro fields and giant carrots growing along the roadside.
We were very, very grateful to him for his generosity of time and extraordinary hospitality to both pick all 5 of us up from train station and to take us to the airport too. We offered gas money; he wouldn't take it. The last Japanese face we saw before having to the airport was of our SUPER HOST.
Thanks Yamamoto-san. We LOVED your guest house and beautiful country setting. We wish we had stayed for several nights.
We hope to see you again soon!
We HIGHLY recommend this home and amazing host for your stay in Chiba prefecture.
