My boyfriend and I spent a full week in this delightful little cabin. It was exactly what we needed, and we loved it! We both used our laptops and wifi every morning, and the internet service was excellent. The cabin had absolutely everything that we needed--dishes, dish soap and dish towels, automatic ice maker, cooking pans, bath towels, bedding, and extra blankets. There is gas grill on the deck, but we didn't use it.
We went to a local grocery store and cooked almost all of our meals, so I can't give any restaurant reviews. We spent every morning drinking our coffee with the back door open, listening to the rain. (Nearly non-stop rain for 5 of our 7 days.) We would venture out onto the deck when the rain lightened up, just to breathe the fresh air and enjoy the view of the river and greenery. A turtle, several deer, and a couple of woodpeckers visited us. We never ventured down to the boat dock in the back because the ground was too swampy from all of the rain. Not sure we could have gotten a 40-pound kayak down there and back up again, anyway, as we could not see a clear trail to get there. There are numerous boat launches very close to the cabin, so that was much easier anyway.
We took a wifi speaker and some board games and DVDs, so despite the rain, we were able to enjoy our time there. We also took two tours at Mammoth Cave, and I highly recommend both of them. The cave is dry, so it's a good activity even if it's raining. One tour was called the Violet City Lantern tour, and the other was the Domes and Dripstones tour. The Violet City Lantern tour is a lantern-light guided tour, and it was recommended in the National Geographic book about national parks. The tours were very different from each other, so we didn't hear a lot of redundant information by doing a second tour. The Violet City Lantern tour sells out, so you have to order your tickets more than a day in advance (recreation.gov). We also hiked several miles of trails at Mammoth Cave and at the Green River Lake State Park. It took 45 min to get to the MC Visitor Center.
The fire pit was on a slanted part of the yard, so we moved it up to the driveway, and we were able to sit in the camp chairs without tipping over. One of my favorite parts of our trip was star-gazing on a tarp and sleeping bags in the field at the top of the driveway. It was absolutely breath-taking. I even saw a shooting star!
We both agreed that we would love to make a return trip.
