  • Private, peaceful, and amazing home

We spent a lovely week at Calling Loon in October. This house seemed to be right out of an HGTV show on vacation homes! It was so perfect: clean, roomy, very well furnished, and private. And it has a great view of Molasses Pond (which is as large as a lake) as well as shore access and a dock. It was a 20 minute drive to the stores in Ellsworth, and convenient to Acadia National Park. We also took drives along the Blackwoods Scenic Road to see blueberry fields which turn scarlet in autumn. It is close to the Schoodic Peninsula which has great photogenic vistas of the coastline. The interior of the house is first-class. Watching TV in the reclining sofa and chairs was so restful after a day sightseeing. The kitchen was amazing: huge fridge, dishwasher, even a trash compactor! The downstairs laundry is really convenient, especially since the lower level is not a basement, as in some rentals, but a beautifully finished space with lots of light. For full disclosure, we have to say that the last 2.5 miles to the house is on unpaved, rough road. We had no problem finding our way after the first trip, but it was somewhat difficult after dark. However, it is certainly well worth the effort!

  • Chicken soup for the soul!

My husband and I along with our four-legged girls (chocolate labs) had an absolutely wonderful time. It was our first visit to Maine and we can't wait to go back. The scenery and fall foliage were breathtaking. We arrived at the property after dark, so we ended up waking up to a wonderful surprise. The changing trees were a very pretty back drop to the grounds which were beautiful, groomed and well appointed with many things to do: multiple fire pits, frisbee golf, kayaks and other outdoor toys for the kids. The home was very well appointed and spacious. We didn't utilize the upstairs during our stay, but we had ample space on the first floor for our needs. The kitchen was very well equipped. My "relax" is cooking, so I was able to prepare full meals with the pots/pans/utensils provided. There are some condiments and spices available, so you don't have to bring your own or purchase everything upon your arrival. Aside from movies, there is no satellite TV service, which we did not miss at all. In fact, it lent to the peacefulness of the home. The WiFi also worked without issue. (Thank you Holly!) Though chilly during our stay, we took advantage of the kayaks and the large beautiful pond (really a lake) several times during our stay. The sloped bank appeared to be a new and a very nice edition to the property, which made access to the water for our dogs and the kayaks very easy. Our 10 days at the property were pure heaven and we hated to leave. Our stay was just what the doctor ordered! Holly--thank you for your hospitality for our stay. You attended to our needs both before and during our stay. Thank you for being such a wonderful host! We can't wait to come back with our family and share the experience with them.
