  • A nice, cozy place within view of the ocean (through some trees) and a short walk from a beach.
    5 of 5

This is a lovely little apartment with nice views (nothing spectacular, because it is set back from the ocean, but lots of green space around the house and--at least with the leaves down--we saw the ocean and wonderful sunsets through the trees). Very welcoming hosts and a well-equipped kitchen. We felt more like house guests than vacation renters. The neighborhood is quiet and walkable. There is access to two beaches (one sandy at low tide the other with big cobbles) within a 5 min walk, several other small beaches within 15 min drive. We were there in the off season (Thanksgiving), and--with a little driving involved--explored Rockland and Camden; didn't make it to the hiking trails in the Camden Hills and at Beech Hill, which looked tempting, but the weather did not cooperate. The apartment was an ideal place to stay at as a small family of three people and a dog. Thank you, Audrey and Rich, for making this nice space available to rent and for your hospitality, including the delicious welcome cookies!

  • Wonderful, spacious home in a great location
    5 of 5

We have rented this house for three summers now, using it for a full month in 2017 and 2018. The location is perfect, an easy walk or bike ride into town, while feeling private and serene. The views from the property are fantastic, enjoyed from the spacious back deck (perfect for a morning cup of tea or evening appetizers and drinks) and from the windows throughout the house. The house itself feels like a real home, clean, well maintained and furnished like a lovely family home and not a rental or hotel, well equipped with kitchen utensils and appliances, towels and bedding, and just about anything you could need. Every bedroom is appealing, and all the space makes for a relaxing stay even for larger family gatherings in that people aren't on top of each other. The pictures on the website are accurate, although they perhaps don't fully convey the charm and character of the house. The owners are friendly and responsive and have great suggestions for activities on the island. Our family loves to bike the loop of the island, hike to the top of Ames Knob (so close and offering a spectacular vista), hike also Mullins Head Park, jog and run along all the roads (safe and user-friendly), swim from the dock, kayak, go to readings at the Library and weekly artists' shows at the gallery, patronize the North Haven Brewery and Calderwood Hall (best cinnamon rolls!), visit the local farms for the freshest produce, meats and cheeses, and baked goods, and just enjoy the serenity that comes with being in such a beautiful place. In other words, this house is pretty much perfect.
