We have traveled all over the world, and seen many beautiful places, but this view cannot be beat! The cabin is simple, clean and cozy. The owner is very nice and accommodating. There is also a very friendly dog that likes to visit and get some attention (belly rub) daily! It's location might be difficult for someone with physical limitations, as there is a hike down the hill from parking (and back up) and the stairs to the bedrooms are quite steep. This was not a problem for us, but might be helpful to know for others considering the property. We were able to use this as our home base and explore some other fjords. Norway is a stunningly beautiful country, and its inhabitants are very friendly.
At first we were a bit disappointed because the picture on HomeAway.com suggests that you walk straight from the cottage to the lake, as if it is in the backyard. In reality it's quite a walk to the boat, and you have to cross the road. But nevertheless the location of the cottage is beautiful, with a breathtaking view of the lake and a waterfall. It's located in a quiet, not very tourisric area, in a peaceful valley above the Sognefjord, so you have the magnificant feeling that all this beauty of nature is there specially for you. After this we went to Eidfjord and the Hardangervidda, which is quite another story, with busloads of tourists, mostly from Asia, hastely running around making selfies. But none of this here! (We stayed here the last week of june.)
From this cottage we visited Balestrand, and took from there a boat trip to the glacier. And we hiked a lot, which is why we came to Norway in the first place. In the cottage there are many leaflets and maps with hikes you can use, which is very helpful. There is a nice hike straight from the cottage to the hill/mountain above, with a lake.
The cottage is very well equipped. You can find here really everything you need (we cannot say this of every cottage we visited!).
It was a pleasure to sit in de sun on the terrace in the evening, to take the boat on the lake (unfortunately we caught no fish), and to hike along the many waterfalls that connect the lakes in this valley.
All together our stay in this cottage is an unforgettable experiece en highly recommended.
