The house was a perfect size for our family (2 kids under 4) and had all the amenities we needed during our stay - board games, TV, well equipped kitchen, BBQ, linens etc.. We appreciated that our hosts provided a pack and play for our baby to sleep in - one less thing to bring, as well as a beach stroller. The outdoor hose, which sounds like a minor thing, was great to be able to hose off sandy feet before entering the house. The porch out front was very nice to be able to enjoy the afternoon sun while the kids took their naps and to enjoy the gorgeous sunsets with a cocktail
The beach itself was like the surface of another planet. So unique and completely deserted. I think we saw a total of two people the entire time we were there. It isn't a traditional beach, since it's basically the ocean floor at low tide, so it's a bit rocky and silty, but it was stunning - one of the most picturesque places I've ever been. At low tide it's a good 10 minute walk to the water's edge, and then it's shallow going out. Be careful when the tide comes in though, it moves fast (we almost lost the stroller!)
That said, it isn't a white sand standard type beach. So don't expect to play soccer and run around on it. But if you like long peaceful walks it's perfect. Our kids had a great time climbing rocks, exploring the tide pools, building sand castles and collecting hermit crabs and shells (of course the crabs were returned to their tidepools unharmed!). The beach is about 10 minutes walk from the property through a field but you get used to it and on your first trip down you can just leave your chairs and gear down there so you don't need to haul it back and forth.
The property itself is fairly remote - the nearest store was about 20 minutes away, but it also had a small diner inside and a pizza place. Still, selection was mainly dry goods (although it did sell wine and liquor) but best to buy groceries in Truro beforehand for meat, seafood and produce.
Our hosts were incredibly gracious and friendly and we enjoyed knowing they were there if we needed anything while still respecting our privacy.
The pictures don't do it justice - the beach is truly otherworldly and beautiful, one of the most unique places I've been. Photographers paradise
We would come back again, maybe as a couple to be able to take advantage of the opportunity to stroll the secluded beach for miles. All in all an unforgettable vacation, great hosts and property as described.
