  • Charming apartment in local neighborhood
    5 of 5

We really enjoyed the Sao Gens apartment. It's a great studio - compact and has enough room for two people. A fifth floor walk-up, you can see the river from the deck; we enjoyed popping out to see whether the morning fog had lifted. Everything was very clean, with a lovely modern design. The bed was especially comfortable. The true highlight was Gisela and Rui - they picked us up AND dropped us off at the airport and made us feel most welcome (the bottle of Sao Gens Apartments wine helped!). I had asked whether any Christmas markets might be open, and Gisela went out of her way to research and find one that had already started (most were starting after we left). Location wise, this is a quiet street. It's a bit of a walk to the high energy districts, and that walk through the charming neighborhoods is worth it ... be prepared for the steep hills. All in all, a definite recommend.

  • Great neighborhood location

This property really gives you a sense of the community. The listing main picture is a view from the balcony over a neighborhood park with is very lively in the evening with lots of families, music, kids playing etc. Access to the subway is reasonably close but takes a bit of time to get used to the maze of streets, lanes and steps and it is a climb to get back home to the flat. Nearby restaurants and shops are good local spots with tram access close by. The flat itself is used by the owner so very well equipped although a bit cluttered and more on the "homey" end of the spectrum as opposed to "hotel chic". You don't need a car in the city and we returned our rental on arrival although their are a couple of lots at the top of the hill which could be used if needed.
