  • Nicely appointed small townhouse with public transport to London
    4 of 5

My wife and I spent the first three nights of our UK driving tour at Lola and Dot's small townhouse. Lola and Dot were kind and attentive hosts who met us at the property on the day we arrived and saw us off on the day we left. There are good places to eat nearby including The Atlantic for a nice fish and chips and The Five Rivers for an Indian meal. The cashier at a local CostCutter was friendly and helpful to us each evening we stopped in. To see central London, public transportation on bus and train is easy to use, but it will take about an hour to get to the city center. No need for a rental car. We turned ours in after the first night since it was going to sit unused while we stayed at Alabama Place. The townhouse gave us a great sense of what life was like in a century or so past. It was updated with modern appliances, but still gave us a small living feel that we don't experience in the US. It was a charming way to start our journey. Thanks so much to Lola and Dot!

  • A Great Place to Stay
    4 of 5

The positives: The owner, Paolo, was incredibly friendly and helpful. There were all kinds of resources left for renters at the suite - bus routes, delivery menus, nearby businesses, etc. Paolo also provided eectrical adaptor/converters which came in handy. The bedrooms were great - full closets with hangers, dressers, night stands, and the beds werecomfortable. The kitchen is amazing and it was so nice having a backyard to enjoy in the evenings. Transit was easily navigated and runs around the clock. The negatives: water pressure is AWFUL. As three women with long/thick hair, it was impossible to wash the shampoo and conditioner out. Showers look more like a birdbath, and even bathing was difficult as it took 30 mins of continuously running the taps to even get the tub HALF full. This also resulted in laundry taking an incredibly long time to complete. The unit is far removed from any tourist locations, and any locals we spoke to were appalled that we were staying in that area. (That being said, it struck us as mostly snobbery as we never felt unsafe while walking, even at night). Overall, this is a great place to stay if you're on a budget, and don't need immediate access to central London.
