We had a truly wonderful experience staying at this lovely cottage.
The owner, Maite, had added so many thoughtful details to make our stay enjoyable, and was incredibly helpful as we emailed before our stay, offering suggestions for things to do and places to eat and shop. When we arrived, we found a loaf of local Welsh fruit cake, and there was a stock of firewood to make a fire on the first night, which was lovely. She had left a basket of pamphlets for all the local attractions, and also local walking routes, as well as a list of important phone numbers.
The cottage itself felt comfortable and cozy, and was tastefully decorated with personal touches and whimsical details. It dates back to the 1830s, and is small but had everything we needed. The downstairs has a sitting/dining room, with a table that seats 6, and a lovely wood-burning stove which made for deliciously cozy evenings playing board games and reading after dinner. The kitchen was well stocked in terms of utensils etc. The owner had chosen to put in a washer/dryer instead of a dishwasher, which seemed to us like a good idea when we returned from a muddy walk! Although the downstairs is small, upstairs there are (somehow, magically) three bedrooms and a full bathroom (as well as the full downstairs bathroom.) One of the bedrooms is very spacious, and although the others are small, they each had a double bed, so the cottage could comfortably sleep 6. The sheets, pillows and duvets were comfortable and new. It was a perfect size for myself, my parents and my 8 year old son.
The location was superb - as you see from the picture, the little river tumbles along outside the front of the cottage, and across a small bridge is a field that climbs up the foot of the mountainside. The air smells sweet and fresh, and you wake to the sound of lambs and birds. There are spectacular walks you can do right from your front doorstep. The cottage is in a small village with a pub that offers good food, and it's a 15 minute drive to the seaside town of Tywyn, which has a couple of large grocery stores and excellent restaurants. A historic narrow-gauge steam railway also runs right to the village!
If you are looking for a comfortable place to stay, with lots of history and character, in the heart of beautiful countryside but still close to civilization, I would highly recommend this cottage. I will definitely come back - hopefully many times!
