Welcome to Maplehurst Cottage on Pen Lake! Whether you want to trek through Ontario’s Algonquin Park, explore Canada’s renown Muskoka area or simply relax by the water, you have come to the right place. After dark sit by a roaring fire and roast marshmallows or make s’mores. A perfect ending to an active day!
The cottage accommodates up to 8 people over 2 levels. The basement level is a walkout to the yard that slopes to the lake. There is 1 bedroom with a queen bed, a 2-piece bathroom and a living room area complete with propane fireplace. There is a TV that can be connected to Apple TV or any gaming device. Internet is available throughout the cottage.
The upper level has 3 bedrooms – 1 double, 1 set of bunks and 1 room with twin beds. The main level has a bathroom with a walk-in shower. The kitchen comes complete with fridge, stove, microwave, dishwasher, coffee maker and a number of other small appliances. The main living area is a combined living room/dining room with wood burning fireplace, TV (connected to Bell satellite) and walkout to a deck with BBQ and a south facing view over Peninsula Lake.
At the dock, complete with umbrella for shade, you can read, canoe (included), kayak (included), swim or just relax and enjoy the view. Fishing off the dock is some of the best in the local area. The shed is fully equipped with paddles, life jackets and extra chairs. It also includes a mini fridge for cold beverages.
There is a gradual slope into the lake with the depth at the end of the dock of about 4.5 feet. The dock can accommodate motorized watercraft, not included in the rental.
The area surrounding Maplehurst cottage offers fun and adventure for all. Ontario’s Algonquin Park with many kilometers of trails for all ages and abilities is a 20-minute drive east. Heading west 10 minutes, Huntsville has many restaurants, entertainment, and shopping from local artistry (jewelry, art, pottery, etc.) to the basic essentials (food, beer, hardware, pharmacy, etc.)
A 30 minute drive south will take you to Dorset, home of Canada’s best country store, Robinson’s General Store, operated since 1921 by the same family. Dorset also offers the Scenic Look Out Tower with a panoramic view of the surrounding Lake of Bays area. Further along you will discover the savory taste of local craft beer at the Lake of Bays Brewery. If you are more adventurous you may want to visit Bracebridge or Gravenhurst to explore the Muskoka Lakes.
There are many exceptional golf courses in the area. Public courses as well as numerous Club Link courses are an easy drive from the cottage.
In winter the area has a small ski resort, Hidden Valley offering 14 groomed trails, 3 quad chairlifts and night skiing and snowboarding. There are also cross-country trails and plenty of snowmobiling. Dog sledding is also available.
No matter what the season there is always some activity available or just enjoy the quiet of a beautiful lake.
