About Mark and Mary McGrath
This was our home for twenty eight wonderful years, from 1988 to 2016, where we fulfilled many of our dreams of living close to, and working within the Vermont countryside. During our years there, we raised our daughter, had large vegetable and flower gardens, had 125 laying hens, and had a serious sugaring operation, tapping more than 1800 trees. We also created a network of wood trails through our marvelous forests, and after the 1999 hurricane, created a hidden seven acre field with beautiful long range views and extreme privacy, platform and picnic table there. Earlier, in 1989 we had a stunning large pond built after obtaining the necessary seven state and federal permits. We had so much work in so many projects that we finally were exactly one year behind in about everything, which allowed us finally to feel caught up.

Why Mark and Mary McGrath chose Greensboro
Where else can you rent a 450 acre renovated rambling old hill farm with a wonderful one and one half acre swimmable pond visible from just about every room in the house, and have miles of private walking trails through beautiful forests all to yourself?
What makes this Farmhouse unique
A nature lover's retreat. The miles of private walking trails through the forests are rarely found anywhere in today's world, and the large beautiful pond acts as a wildlife magnet. A private picnic area with views from another century. A 175 year old 4 bedroom 3 and one half bath farmhouse with great charm, but completely undated including wi-fi throughout. All in a charming village with many cultural and agricultural activities.

Beauty, peace and quiet
A gorgeous house in a great place. Splendid isolation. We'll be back.
Lovely rural getaway
We enjoyed staying in Mark and Mary's beautiful, comfortable house on a gorgeous forested plot of land. The Hill Farmstead brewery is right around the corner, and there are quaint farms nearby as well. We stayed three days, which was a good amount of time, but if I had to choose again I would go during the summer when there are more local activities, or during the fall when the leaves change, and stay longer .
Thanks, Karry, for your review. We too are sorry you couldn't stay longer, and hope you return next summer or fall. But consider the winter, too. We generally get a lot of snow, and the landscape becomes a winter wonderland, visible from the cozy house, with its 5 heating zones and wood stove. There is cross-country skiing nearby, and sleds in our woodshed for sliding.
Serene and relaxing
This house has the most beautiful views out the back door! I could’ve just sat on the deck and stared at it all day long and never left the property. The owners were quick to respond back to me if I had any questions, and were very accommodating to provide us with everything we needed for our stay. It was a perfect location for us as it was within an 1 1/2 hours to Burlington, and the same for some places we visited in NH. I would highly recommend staying here, especially if you want to relax and feel like you have the whole world to yourself!
Hi Valarie and Bill,
Thanks so much for the positive review. We really enjoyed having you and your family there, appreciated the lovely photos you sent us, and hope you will return as soon as your busy schedules allow.
Best wishes, Mark and Mary McGrath
Fabulous - our best VRBO!!!
Outstanding, wonderful, accommodating hosts! Tremendous amount of inside space for all guests to spread out. Beautiful site/acreage with plenty of room to hike, ski, or snowshoe. Short drive into Greensboro for any needed supplies and Caspian Lake for recreational opportunities. Very enjoyable, look forward to next trip.
Mary and I are happy that you were able to enjoy our home of 28 years while taking part in your daughter's wedding.
We look forward to your return.
Lovely home on lovely setting - Winter Wonderland
We had a lovely time this February 2019 at the McGraths farmhouse in Greensboro, VT. This was the first winter in many years that behaved like a proper Vermont winter and we were glad to enjoy snowshoeing and xc-skiing around the property. The house was lovely with a large kitchen and dining area along with a great Hearthstone wood burning stove. The house was warm with double pane windows + storms. Lovely private setting, though not too far out of the way. We had room to roam both inside and out. Would love to see in summer or fall! Mark was very good at email responses and we'd recommend highly.
The house was spacious and well equipped, and it served our needs very well.
I said above it is well equipped—full and spacious kitchen allows for any kind of cooking you want. The washing facilities are more than adequate, as are the size of rooms and number of bathrooms. So many books on the shelves, and fun to observe their organization.
The house is proximal to Craftsbury Outdoor Center, about a 25 minute drive. The roads were plowed in a timely fashion, as was the driveway. Mark and Mary offered helpful pre-trip and in trip advice. Yes the local general store has everything you might need!
I would like to see the house and surrounding land in summer, but it makes a great accommodation for winter event travel. I highly recommend the place and the hosts.
Thank you so much for your kind review, particularly after you must have just completed the long journey home to Alaska. We very much enjoyed having you and your sons here as they competed in the cross country sky trials at the Craftsbury Outdoor Center. We hope all went well. Also, glad you enjoyed our many books, which represent in a rough way an archeological survey of our interests through the decades. Eclectic, to say the least.
We would love it if you and your family could return in the summer when our forest and fields are transformed and the pond is for swimming and wildlife, but I am sure you have many beautiful landscapes and activities to enjoy in Alaska.
Very best wishes from Mark and Mary
