Built in 1963, this ranch style home sits on 5 acres, on a sparsely populated mesa. It features long views, concrete floors, original wood beamed ceiling professionally maintained jetted hot tub, 8' dining table/project space, stocked kitchen, cookware, wifi, cable, DVD library, CD's, shower and tub, xeric garden, wood stove, weber coal bbq, minisplit heating and air conditioning, fire pit, king bed, and laundry. Surrounded by natural undeveloped land on all sides, there's need to be concerned about privacy. This home enjoys many return guests, some of whom have stayed for up to three months at a time. A number of our honorary residents have been back repeatedly over the last ten years.
The Getaway is about 5 minutes north of "downtown" JT, and an easy 10 minute drive into the main park entrance.
We love this humble yet proud house, but we're hardly objective! Take a look at the photos, and see if the house speaks to you!
As a set designer, I'm in love with the visual drama of the California high desert. I was so excited when I found my little spot in the Mojave....I couldn't wait to start working with the palette of homestead architecture, native plants, seasons, and vistas that Joshua Tree offers.
My hope is that the resulting home reflects the unassuming laid-back lifestyle that I value but sometimes find difficult to enjoy in LA, while also reflecting a respect for nature, warmth, a bit of humor, and relaxation with the necessary flourishes (good art, good books, wi-fi and espresso!).
Miriam purchased this house in 2006
There are four reasons that I chose Joshua Tree as a location for a second home. Practically speaking, JT is only a few hours drive from major cultural hubs and as such, it's a place that I can frequent often and on short notice. I was also drawn to the vibrant local scene. And then there's the unbelievable landscape of the national park. But even more than all of that, my real motivation had to do with the inexplicable sense of tranquility and giddiness that comes over me as I leave the pavement when nearing the property.
The best spot in this house-I think- revolves around the big dining table even though the table itself is not the amazing thing. This is where I've served many meals for groups of friends who are all too busy to get together back home, wherever back home might be. I often design while sitting at this table, alternating between staring out to the view for ideas, punching out emails, and scribbling on messy stacks of paper. From the reports that guests have given me, this table has also served in the writing of songs, all-night nickel poker, quilt-making, violin practice, the completion of crossword puzzles, the planning of road trips, and one marriage proposal. I like to think that guests will find the house to be just like that table: ground zero for whatever they want to be doing most!
Also the stillness of the nights... I could go on and on.
This place is amazing! Miriam's little house just outside of Joshua Tree is a win no matter how you look at it. The location is just far enough to feel remote without being far from town for groceries and it's only 20 minutes or so to the park. The house itself screams "pride of ownership." From the well-stocked DVD library to the manicured cactus garden to the local coffee beans and wood burning stove, we couldn't have loved it more. The large windows in every room and tasteful decorating made this little house a gem in the desert. Great work on making this such a great place to stay!
We had such a wonderful time at this amazing property. Everything was absolutely perfect. We HIGHLY recommend this property. Pure bliss.
came with my wife for a few days to explore the park, joshua tree town and spent some time 40 min southwest in desert hot springs and palm springs. amazing location and beautifully maintained property. we couldnt have asked for more!
Miriam has thought of everything you would ever need or want in a magical trip to Joshua Tree. We had the best time. Can't wait to go back. The views are incredible, and the design is both fabulous and comforting.
I absolutely love this home! It's modern, stylish but also incredibly cozy. The neighborhood is serene and peaceful, and the view of Joshua Tree from the backyard is beautiful. After a long day of hiking, there's nothing better than relaxing in the jacuzzi and watching the sunset. We had the best stay, and Miriam is so kind and helpful. I hope to come back soon!
We loved staying at Miriam's place. It's the perfect location from which to explore Joshua Tree National Park.
What we loved about the house: Outdoor space, Hot tub, Swinging chairs, the View, the sunset, fully stocked kitchen (loved the spices!), grilling outside, comfortable living areas and bedroom.
Miriam's house notes with suggestions of things to do in JT were super helpful and made us enjoy the visit even more. If we come back to JT, we'll definitely stay at Miriam's again.
