About the Owner

We have owned and managed our vacation rental since December of 2004, and we consider it a labor of love. Both of us have worked most of our lives for the State of California and live in Fair Oaks, CA. Mike is a graphic designer for the Department of Finance, and Mary recently retired after 27 years as a manager for California State Parks. Mary is a breast cancer survivor, but is doing well and enjoying retirement. Mike hopes to retire in a few years when we hope to spend more time hiking and cross country skiing in Tahoe.

Guestbook comments from the owner

"We had a fabulous time at your cabin. Everything was as comfortable, convenient and enjoyable as we had hoped. The woodburning stove and portable heaters kept us cozy as the snow came down. The dining room and kitchen were welcoming and large, providing us with some memorable meals and late night cocoa sessions. The reading materials were entertaining and useful. We perused much of the visitor's notebook on the coffee table and found some great trivia and ideas for exploration. Your recommendation to use the free shuttle to Sierra at Tahoe was greatly appreciated and turned out great. Our greyhound and chihuahua acclamated quickly to the snow and appreciated the large backyard. The beds were tremendously comfortable as were the linens and comforters. The location of your place made for some nice daytrips to several points on the lake, and overall we had a very relaxing getaway. I can't think of anything that could be improved, and I appreciated your help and courtesy. Thanks very much and we'll think of you in the future for our mountain adventures."

Cute house and nice back yard

  • 5 of 5

This is a cute house with everything we needed for our stay. We brought our two dogs and it was a perfect choice. The highlight might have been the really nice fenced backyard with some great outdoor seating where we could enjoy the weather in the evenings and in between outingS. Owner was a pleasure to work with.

Quaint Cabin

  • 5 of 5

We enjoyed our stay at this cute house. The backyard was lovely even though we didn't get any time to enjoy it. We did find it interesting how high the bed was but we made it work. Also the one small bathroom was a little difficult even for the two of us. Overall we enjoyed the stay and felt centrally located to everything we wanted to see. Mary was very responsive and a pleasure to work with!

Wondeful cabin for family & dog

  • 5 of 5

The cabin was perfect for our family of 4 + our dog. The cabin's size and layout enabled all of us to have our own space as well as a ample room for family games. We all especially enjoyed the lovely backyard where you can have morning coffee under a huge and wonderful pine tree or sit and read any time of day.

The cabin is close to our favorites South Lake beaches; Kiva (dog beach) and Pope and only a short trip to Zephyr Cover over the line in Nevada.

Mary the owner was very responsive, and I would definitely recommend this cabin to family and friends.

Spectacular. Comfy. Home-away-from-home.

  • 5 of 5

What a jewel. The perfect location. The perfect home-away-from-home. Inviting, clean, welcoming! A joyous and joyful experience. We were sad to leave and a tad jealous that this incredible home is not ours! :-( Can't have everything, sadly. We will certainly be back. The owners: A pure joy. Everything was meticulous - down to the smallest detail. Close to EVERYTHING. Perfect location. Love you. Will rave about you to all and sundry. Your biggest fans will be back soon. Thank you for a magnificent experience. This was home and we loved every minute of it. THANK YOU!

Exceeds expectations

  • 5 of 5

The property was immaculate with all the amenities of home. It was easy to settle right in and not feel like you are actually away from home. Kitchen, bathroom, bedrooms all well stocked with day to day essentials. Of course you ARE away from home and all you have to do is take a look outside the window or sit in the backyard on the couch swing to realize this. I write this review as a summer experience......beautiful big pines, wildlife, fresh air. But enough about the backyard let's talk about how close you are to the beaches, hiking trails, restaurants, etc.........minutes, just minutes away. Speaking of minutes, this is pretty close to the response time I received from the owner when I had inquiries during my initial booking. Prompt and friendly.

I highly recommend this property, you will not regret it.

From the Owner

We are nature lovers and animal lovers, and appreciate the variety of outdoor activities available in the area. We love to kayak from Kiva beach to Emerald Bay, hike in the Desolation Wilderness and other beautiful hikes in the area, snow shoe and cross country ski in Hope Valley, Camp Richardson and Fallen Leaf Lake areas. We recently began enjoying the newest lake sport, Stand Up Paddling (SUP), and found that our dog Kachina, a German Shepherd/Siberian Husky mix loves it too. This is truly our little piece of paradise! While we never get to spend as much time as we'd like in Tahoe, we do make it a point to check-in for maintenance as much as possible. Work up here is never a burden as the clean crisp mountain air is so rejuvenating. We love that we can share our little piece of paradise with our guests, many of them returning year after year.

From the Owner

We love the rustic feeling of the cabin with the cedar siding and the quaint cottage feel of the interior. The vintage Wedgwood stove and oven add to the ambience, yet deliver wonderful cooking experiences all these years later. Mary loves to cook, so we try to make sure the cabin is well stocked both for us and for our guests. We stock the spice cabinet and the condiments regularly, and make sure that you'll have that gadget that you need for your special dish. If we don't have it, we want to know so that we can stock it for the future. We also invested in high quality mattresses in our two main bedrooms because we all need to wakeup to a great night's sleep. Last, but one of the most important for us, is the ability to share our cabin with other pet loving people. We have a huge fenced back yard, a doggie door, we stock treats for your dogs, and go out of our way to provide everything you need for your canine family members, while still keeping the cabin fresh and clean so that people who don't have pets still love to stay here. We hope you will come and enjoy the cabin as much as we do!
