About the Owner

We have owned and managed our vacation rental since December of 2004, and we consider it a labor of love. Both of us have worked most of our lives for the State of California and live in Fair Oaks, CA. Mike is a graphic designer for the Department of Finance, and Mary recently retired after 27 years as a manager for California State Parks. Mary is a breast cancer survivor, but is doing well and enjoying retirement. Mike hopes to retire in a few years when we hope to spend more time hiking and cross country skiing in Tahoe.

Guestbook comments from the owner

"We had a fabulous time at your cabin. Everything was as comfortable, convenient and enjoyable as we had hoped. The woodburning stove and portable heaters kept us cozy as the snow came down. The dining room and kitchen were welcoming and large, providing us with some memorable meals and late night cocoa sessions. The reading materials were entertaining and useful. We perused much of the visitor's notebook on the coffee table and found some great trivia and ideas for exploration. Your recommendation to use the free shuttle to Sierra at Tahoe was greatly appreciated and turned out great. Our greyhound and chihuahua acclamated quickly to the snow and appreciated the large backyard. The beds were tremendously comfortable as were the linens and comforters. The location of your place made for some nice daytrips to several points on the lake, and overall we had a very relaxing getaway. I can't think of anything that could be improved, and I appreciated your help and courtesy. Thanks very much and we'll think of you in the future for our mountain adventures."

The property was immaculate with all the amenities of home. It was easy to settle right in and not feel like you are actually away from home. Kitchen, bathroom, bedrooms all well stocked with day to day essentials. Of course you ARE away from home and all you have to do is take a look outside the window or sit in the backyard on the couch swing to realize this. I write this review as a summer experience......beautiful big pines, wildlife, fresh air. But enough about the backyard let's talk about how close you are to the beaches, hiking trails, restaurants, etc.........minutes, just minutes away. Speaking of minutes, this is pretty close to the response time I received from the owner when I had inquiries during my initial booking. Prompt and friendly.

I highly recommend this property, you will not regret it.

Awesome 3 room cabin with a nice backyard filled with wooden chairs, outdoor dining table, and gas grill. Good location, easy to get to the lake, stores are close by, quick drive to some great hikes. We had a great time and would love to stay again soon!

Home was clean, well stocked and very comfortable!

  • 5 of 5

My family had a wonderful time and thoroughly enjoyed our stay at your home! The home is an older property, but it was very clean, comfortable and had everything we needed. The location was great as well. We really enjoyed the Welcome binders.....so much great information! The yard was wonderful for our doggies. Oh....we couldn't believe our eyes on Sunday morning.....we saw a big bear strolling down the street! Thanks for the heads-up about that!

I hope we have the chance to rent your home again.

Thanks!

Charming quiet bear themed cabin walking distance to a couple fun restaurants.

Super dog friendly fenced yard with anything you might forget there for you.

HIGHLY recommended, we will definitely be back. Felt like home away from home.

Awesome cabin in South Lake Tahoe!

  • 5 of 5

This is a beautiful cabin with a wooded, fence-enclosed backyard (our dog loved it!) that is centrally located near The Y in South Lake Tahoe. It has three cosy bedrooms, a warm living room with a wood stove, and a fully equipped kitchen (there's nothing here we needed that we couldn't find--coffee grinder, check!; meat thermometer, check!). It was like staying in a friend's house rather than in a vacation rental. We would definitely come back again!

Responsible pet owner friendly and so very cozy!!!

  • 5 of 5

Last minute decision to search for a cabin for MLK weekend. What are the chances with the fresh snow AND pet friendly? Our 3 dogs are our family as well as our 11 year old so a fenced yard was really important to us. Mary was very timely in her responses and my 100+ questions with regard to the yard. We arrived Friday night to a very, very cozy place that immediately felt like home. The cabin was very well-suited for our family and dogs and I am very grateful for the rules and guidelines for dogs owners. We quickly settled in and to see our babies romp in the snow for the first time was amazing. Our 11 year old spent most of the next day playing outside while we enjoyed football and watching all of them out the window. Driving down the street, both my husband and I said we were so glad we had this cabin because if we didn't we would want it. It is so cute inside and out. We will be back for sure. I am really really hoping anyone coming with dogs will be diligent so the opportunity to keep bringing our babies remains. Not only is this place so appealing in the snow, but with the BBQ, swing and awesome fenced yard it might very well be a destination for us and the family this summer. Don't miss the Burger Lounge just up the road, walking distance. Get the Heavenly Burger! BTW. Uber is now in S. Lake Tahoe. I was able to take Uber to Sierra at Tahoe to meet my husband and son snow boarding for the day. Driver was there within minutes. I kind of hate to give this place such a great review since we don't want it to get so crowded we can't get in :) Thanks Mary and Mike! Too bad we didn't get snowed in for another week or so.

Location

From the Owner

We are nature lovers and animal lovers, and appreciate the variety of outdoor activities available in the area. We love to kayak from Kiva beach to Emerald Bay, hike in the Desolation Wilderness and other beautiful hikes in the area, snow shoe and cross country ski in Hope Valley, Camp Richardson and Fallen Leaf Lake areas. We recently began enjoying the newest lake sport, Stand Up Paddling (SUP), and found that our dog Kachina, a German Shepherd/Siberian Husky mix loves it too. This is truly our little piece of paradise! While we never get to spend as much time as we'd like in Tahoe, we do make it a point to check-in for maintenance as much as possible. Work up here is never a burden as the clean crisp mountain air is so rejuvenating. We love that we can share our little piece of paradise with our guests, many of them returning year after year.

Amenities

From the Owner

We love the rustic feeling of the cabin with the cedar siding and the quaint cottage feel of the interior. The vintage Wedgwood stove and oven add to the ambience, yet deliver wonderful cooking experiences all these years later. Mary loves to cook, so we try to make sure the cabin is well stocked both for us and for our guests. We stock the spice cabinet and the condiments regularly, and make sure that you'll have that gadget that you need for your special dish. If we don't have it, we want to know so that we can stock it for the future. We also invested in high quality mattresses in our two main bedrooms because we all need to wakeup to a great night's sleep. Last, but one of the most important for us, is the ability to share our cabin with other pet loving people. We have a huge fenced back yard, a doggie door, we stock treats for your dogs, and go out of our way to provide everything you need for your canine family members, while still keeping the cabin fresh and clean so that people who don't have pets still love to stay here. We hope you will come and enjoy the cabin as much as we do!
