I inherited this property from my mother, and have been determined to keep it updated and beautiful since I have owned it. Several generations have grown up going to "the farm"- it was originally a dairy farm-and even though we lived in Westchester cities and towns, we always had a bit of the Tom Sawyer life waiting for us in the Catskills. A great stress reliever and wonderful getaway, Buck Brook Acres has been a joy and respite for all of my family members. A cool fall night, a great big lakeside fire, throw in a guitar and some warbling voices, and you will forget that New York is 2 hours away.
Mary Ellen Gherardi purchased this farmhouse in 1948
It's like having your own park and lake, but we are close to towns, restaurants, Bethel Woods Concert Venue, Woodstock museum, and the soon-to-open Montreign family entertainment park and casino.
On Buck Brook Acres, you feel isolated, but you are close to cute towns and great restaurants, Bethel Woods music venue, Shandalee and antique auctions in Jeffersonville. The property has a great stone patio for cocktails and conversation, and private trails for your more pensive moods. Climb to the top of the hill for a 'Sound of Music' view of the Catskills.
With 16 members of our family ranging in age from 8 months to 71 years we arrived for 10 days in what turned out to be our own private nature wonderland. The houses were comfortable and accomodated our family well. Most of our living was done in the larger house with one couple and several kids sharing the smallr house for sleeping.
The lake, though small was adequate for the kids and for the swimmer among us. We boated in the flat bottom row boat provided and fished from the shore and the gazebo. Although no large fish chose to take our bait, the kids got a great kick out of catching the litte fish and throwing them back into their natural environment.
Although we felt totally removed from civilization, the market and necessities of life were only a short distance away. Th owners provided excellent directions to towns and local attractions although we were content to just hang out on the property. The rasberry bushes were laden with ripe berries and picking and eating were more enjoyable activities.
Thanks to the owners for providing us with the opportunity to enjo such a wonderful retreat.
Beautiful setting. Perfect for our large group with friends, including little kids.
Owner was responsive, house had plenty of room to socialize and hang out, cook and feast, with lovely grounds -- including the pond.
Thank you so much. The pictures on this site don't do justice to the two houses.
We have a group of 5 families that have been staying at this house for the past 6 summers, and we all love it so much. We are 9 adults and 12 kids and we all fit comfortably in the two houses, and we all just love the privacy of the 100 acres of land and having our own private lake to enjoy swimming in. Even though it's been six summers that we've spent at this location, we always find new things to do - taking the row boat out on the locate, berry picking, taking hikes in the woods, some years we've brought a volleyball net or bad minton, hammocks to hang in the trees, etc. Every year, the owners have also made slight improvements to the house, too, and this year we really enjoyed the new patio and outdoor dining tables with umbrellas. We go to the farmer's market in Roscoe on Sundays, and some of the guys enjoy going fly fishing or playing tennis at the local tennis club. I rent a lot of houses in various places throughout the year to vacation with kids and I have to say, this is always our favorite spot and it also helps that the owners are really super nice people to work with. We love it and plan on coming back year after year and we recommend it.
This is our fourth time in five years staying at Buck Brook Acres. We absolutely love this property. We have enjoyed fishing and swimming in our own private lake. We have hiked the huge 100+ acre property every time. The rustic houses really add to it's charm. After we have our BBQ feast in the evening, we spend the nights under the moon and stars making smores and having some drinks around the fire pit next to the lake. I have rented many properties all over the New York area and this is the only one I keep coming back to. There's something really special about it.
Here again! Our fourth year, better every year. We seam to pick the right time of the year, trees in color, cool enough for a outdoor fire, too. Can't wait for next year!!!
We have rented this property for 2 years now to host a reunion of friends. It's a great place to have a large group of adults and children. The lake entertains the children while the adults have plenty of space to relax and hang out. Lots of bedrooms, a firepit for evening bonfires and 2 kitchens for cooking meals. And the surrounding area is gorgeous, we look forward to coming back!
