2017 Late Summer/Early Fall visit to Muskegon would be perfect while staying less than a 5 minute walk to Lake Michigan or a 5 mile drive to downtown Muskegon. Our Plum Hollow Cottage is on the edge of the Bluffton Neighborhood. Just walk between some beautiful forested dunes or follow the street and you will be at one of the most beautiful beaches on Lake Michigan.

DON'T MISS OUT on staying in both our cottages that have connecting yards. Both places have plenty of your own outdoor space to enjoy. There is quite a bit of room to park your cars off the street. We have accommodated several large or multiple families that like the idea of having 6 bedrooms and room for 12 guests. There is a roll-a-way bed for a smaller person or child. It's almost like having your own little vacation compound along Lake Michigan & Muskegon Lake's Bluffton Bay. There is a lot of outdoor space around both cottages to call your own. Check out Pedler's Paradise(#121177) and see if it would be ideal for your group along with this cottage--Plum Hollow.

This clean and spacious cottage's location is perfect if you want Muskegon's Pere Marquette Beach on Lake Michigan just a short walk out your door. The historic Bluffton neighborhood is surrounded by forested dunes next to a beautiful and clean beach on Lake Michigan & Muskegon Lake's Bluffton Bay . Go back & forth to the beach from the cottage in only a couple minutes. A field across the street can be used to walk through on your way to Lake Michigan. The road is just as easy & just as quick. Sitting around the wood stove outside is a perfect day's end after dinner is cooked on the grill. This cottage is laid out with plenty of room for all to gather and still have privacy. Sorry, ABSOLUTELY NO PETS on the property. Smokers are not allowed to do so inside the cottage. We have been strict about not allowing any pets for the 14 years we have been in business. Access all around the cottage to High Speed Wireless Internet. Relax while watching the 42' Cable HDTV in the living room or stretch out on the new King Bed & watch the smaller HDTV. Our REVIEWS tell the whole story as to why this place and our care is well worth your choosing to stay here. We hope you will want to join us during 2017-18 and celebrate the second decade during our 14th Year Anniversary. During our Summer Season we only reserve the cottage for Saturday to Saturday. Annie & I feel we have gotten better each year at making your vacation a comfortable one. We continuously upgrade our furnishings and decor to make our guests feel very much At Home while Away.

Plum Hollow Amenities In Bluffton: The Bluffton neighborhood is safe, friendly, and quiet. Neighbors' friendliness is one of the many reasons people love living here. The easy, quick access to both lakes is the biggest plus. Both our side-by-side cottages are the closest rentals in the Bluffton Neighborhood to Lake Michigan. This 3 bedroom cottage features a sun-filled living room and dining room with table and chairs for 6-8 people. There is a full service kitchen with a small table and chairs. The Malt Shop(breakfast nook) with a booth provides more seating during meals or a place for the kids to play board games. The summer breezes off the lake wisp through this retro decorated area, with an old booth, that overlooks the bird feeders. The basement is where the laundry area is located with a washer/dryer & large double sink. The full bath has a tub/shower. The master bedroom has a king bed & includes a sink & private toilet. Old oak and beech trees are all around property.

Outside & In Plum Hollow: Ample parking for 3 large vehicles off the street and next to either entrance. Extensive library of novels with plenty of coffee table reading materials. Some current magazines. Movies, DVDs, and CD's are available. Some wood provided for a couple evening fires in the outdoor stove. You will have a clean gas grill to use. Let us know ahead if you prefer charcoal instead. Picnic table, Adirondack style chairs, lawn swing, and other seating makes the yard a relaxing place to enjoy in sun or shade. Very little automobile traffic flows by the cottage since it is just off the main artery to the beach(Lakeshore Drive). We try to have potted annual flowers to compliment the established perennials. The deer who stop by at night and early morning have made that hard.

More Advantages To Enjoy: The bedroom that has the queen bed is roomy with an open ceiling & overhead fan. There is enough room to set up the roll-a-way for a smaller 7th guest. The smallest bedroom utilizes the space well with a trundle bed and medium sized dresser. The living room TV area has plenty of seating with a large couch, matching love seat, and 2 chairs with footstools . A bench seat is handy for the 'out-of-the-way' traffic to use the front door to stop by for a quick glance at the exciting part of some sporting event. The Master Bedroom & 2nd bedroom are pretty good size & also include dressing chairs. This cottage is well laid out so our guests can feel like they can be inclusive or reclusive. Hopefully, you will feel like all our guests, and be so comfortable, you won't want to leave.

About Stan Denman

Stan is a retired high school and middle school teacher, coach, and part-time administrator. Raised in Speedway, IN and attending Ball State University he chose to start a teaching career in Muskegon in 1968. Also, after retirement in 1995,

he substitute taught at many other area schools. Running many volleyball leagues and beach tournaments were a favorite pastime. Now, running & biking are his exercise passions.

Annie got her degree at Western Michigan University after being raised in nearby Whitehall, MI. Instead of teaching, she travelled the world and lived many years in the Caribbean and out west in Colorado & Utah. She settled back to her home area to be with Stan around 1990. Annie loves to cook for friends. Her exercise is pool aerobics & yoga.

Stan Denman purchased this house in 1982

Why Stan Denman chose Muskegon

Stan bought this property after living all around the Muskegon area. There's no other place in the area that comes close to how nice it is to live in the Bluffton Neighborhood. The neighbors are the most friendly ever experienced anywhere, plus the amenities outdoor are endless. Fate was on Stan's side the day he was able to buy Plum Hollow and live full time in the neighborhood. This will always be home for the rest of his life. Annie has grown to love it too. After building another home only 1/2 mile away for Annie's Mom it became imperative to live there 24/7. Although Crezens has passed, we stay in the house we built & keep providing the opportunity for others to stay in Plum Hollow Cottage and enjoy our beautiful area.

What makes this house unique

Just look at Bluffton's history and it's no mystery why Buster Keaton and his family loved staying in the neighborhood over 100 years ago. It is not only ideally located on a peninsula with beautiful lakes on both sides, but it is relatively crime free. Neighbors know each other and not only look out for their welfare, but are genuinely friendly. At the same time, they are not nosy and intrusive in any one else's personal lives. The area is very unique in many special ways. The Plum Hollow property is the closest rental in the neighborhood to Lake Michigan. The yard is a good size for the area & off street parking is plentiful. House is well suited for a family of 6 to stay in comfortable beds with the privacy of their own bedroom. No hide-a-beds in the living area to cram all the guests in like sardines. There's room for a 7th guest with a roll-away bed that can be used in either of the large bedrooms. Since there are 2 large bedrooms, there is enough room to have an 8th guest, if it were to be an infant less than 1 yr. of age.

Map

Car: not necessary

Just outside your door a nature trail leads to a secluded bench for watching another gorgeous sunset over Pere Marquette Beach on Lake Michigan. A short walk in the early morning along Edgewater St. affords you with a beautiful sunrise over Muskegon Lake. A few yards from your door is a bike trail that is part of the Shoreline Trail System. Walk to sailing regattas or volleyball courts hosting league play and tournaments. Stroll over with lunch and enjoy a top-notch view of Muskegon's harbor entrance. Just as close is Dockers Fish House & Lounge facing over Harbour Towne Yacht Basin. Hours could be spent watching the boat traffic going through the channel between Lake Michigan & Muskegon Lake. While there, a visit to the World War II submarine, Silversides, gives a peek in to our nation's naval history. Plenty of other playgrounds along the lake to enjoy after trying out all the ones by Plum Hollow. Your stay will be a memory you will cherish forever.

Spacious and cozy

  • 5 of 5

Stan and Annie are wonderful hosts. They have mastered the practicalities, and also take time for the little touches that make the traveler feel like a welcome houseguest. We were greeted with fresh flowers throughout the house, fresh cherries in the fridge, a candy dish of chocolates, and yummy mini muffins. SOOOOO nice after being on the road with young children for hours. The three bedrooms had ample room for our family of six, and the flexibility for varying ages and schedules. Our pack and play fit in any of the three rooms, and the high chair provided was handy for our baby. The house is meticulously clean and comfortable . Towels, including beach towels, are plentiful. Even the laundry area downstairs is spotless. The king size bed is rare in this type of cottage, and was quite comfortable. Our 11 year olds had no trouble sharing the queen in the back bedroom, and our two year old loved the trundle in the middle bedroom. The kitchen had every tool, pot, or dish we looked for, and the fridge was roomy and clean. We never ran out of hot water, which was amazing given our group size. The neighborhood is quiet, and the walk to the beach was easy. We enjoyed the outdoor picnic table and the seating around the fire pit. The gas grill was easy to use and clean. Stan keeps up the beautiful yard daily, but he is quite unobtrusive. The central air also worked great, even during a warm July week. Also appreciated - Stan's emails with info on local events. Not only did we make a trip to Michigan Adventure, but also the local July 4 fireworks, RockStock music festival, and the annual art fair. A trip to the veterans' museum and multiple beach visits rounded out our stay. Stan and Annie were easily reachable by text during our visit, helping us locate items quickly. We highly recommend this cottage for a family vacation!

Clean, Comfortable, Lots of Amenities, Close to beach

  • 4 of 5

Plum Hollow Cottage is spotlessly clean and stocked with everything you will need other than food. Owners Stan and Annie welcomed us with a basket of mini brownies and a bowl of fresh cherries. The house is stocked abundantly with towels, paper products, cleaning supplies, toiletries, books, games, and information about local events and attractions. Plum Hollow cottage is located in a tree-lined residential area and is a short walk to the beautiful Lake Michigan beach. The master bedroom has a small sink with vanity in the bedroom and a toilet in what appears to have been a closet with a vinyl accordion door which is odd but quite convenient. There is another full bath in the hallway. There were five of us- three adults and two young teens- and we found the house roomy and comfortable. We took advantage of Plum Hollow's fresh herb garden to season our pasta sauce and enjoyed an evening around the fire pit in the yard ( wood supplied by Stan and Annie). We also enjoyed having a washer and dryer, free wi-fi, two TVs, and the large dining room table where we fit 9 people for dinner. The decor is beach cottage eclectic with a charming retro feel. My niece especially enjoyed watching Stan with his surfing cat one evening at Lake Michigan. The location is great and I recommend Plum Hollow for a nice week's stay at the beach.

plum hollows heaven on earth

  • 5 of 5

this was the best vacation I have had in twenty years. the cabin was beautiful, the lake was amazing and Stan and Annie were amazing and a pleasure to meet. every detail of the stay was perfect. All my past travels have been in hotel rooms and that has changed for me permanently. it was so nice to walk in and have everything provided for our use. that was so much pressure off right from the start. I cannot believe how much I was able to decompress this past week. I am seriously considering this a yearly trip only for a much longer stay. I don't have enough words to say how great this stay was for me. the people I encountered on this trip to Bluffton were happy and friendly and that was an enjoyable feeling as well. But then again how could they not be happy enjoying this beautiful little slice of heaven. wish I were still there.

Excellent VRBO rental property

  • 5 of 5

Even after reading the other great reviews we were very impressed on our arrival at Plum Hollow. We were greeted by owner and shown the property. The property was very clean inside and out. The owners show pride in their rental property. The kitchen was very well equipped with a list to help you locate everything even spices for cooking. The king size bed was very comfortable with nice linens. Plenty of extra blankets and towels are available. The owners are nearby and available if there are any problems. The property is in a great location for access to the beach and other local attractions. In summary this was a thoroughly enjoyable rental experience that I would highly recommend.

Best VRBO I've ever rented

  • 5 of 5

The owners are really dedicated to keeping this property very clean and groomed. He even provided us with a list of all the kitchen items and spices in the cabinet. Honestly this is the best appointed VRBO I've ever rented... extra pillows, towels, beach toys and chairs, firewood for the chimea, grilling utensils...

We were greeted and given a tour of the house so we knew all the ins and outs, and the owners even sent us a list of the local events. The house is just a great location for the beach on Lake Michigan and the restaurant there is great food and walk-able. We were even given a bowl of cherries in the fridge, fresh flowers, and muffins on the dining room table.

If you are staying in the area you should pick this place, preiod.

We had relative over and were able to just sit around and relax as well as head over to the beach.

Owner's Response: Dear Anonymous We are happy you and your family enjoyed our Plum Hollow Cottage and it's close proximity to our beautiful Pere Marquette City Beach on Lake Michigan. After living there for several years in the past that is why we miss it the most. Your review expressing the appreciation all you had for our effort is very rewarding. We truly believe our guests deserve all these things on their hard earned vacation. Stan & Annie

Exceeded our expectations!

  • 5 of 5

We expected, because of other positive reviews and then a great initial conversation with Stan, a wonderful stay at Plum Hollow.

It was better than wonderful! Stan and Annie take pride in their cottages and pleasure in fixing them up for their guests as evidenced by the many thoughtful extras. Plum Hollow was impeccably clean from the outside steps to the spic-and-span basement laundry area. We were greeted by fresh muffins and fruit and hand-written notes but, also, by birds feeding at multiple feeders, flowering hanging plants and an herb garden ready for picking. The cottage was furnished with all of the basics - plenty of linens thoughtfully laundered in skin-sensitive detergent; ample, comfortable seating; good quality mattresses on the beds and lots of closet and dresser drawer space; a kitchen well-stocked with serving and cooking dishes. Stan and Annie went above and beyond by adding lots of charm with a whimsical "malt shop" porch, art on the walls, books and games, and objects of interest like the kaleidoscope that fascinated my grandson!

These owners have a knack for quickly assessing how much to interact with guests, largely staying out of the way except for mysteriously showing up to empty the fire pit every day and make sure the trash gets to the curb. However, we were very grateful that Stan kept us informed of activities going on in the area; my son-in-law loved the stand-up paddle board that he would never have known about had Stan not knocked on the door one morning to tell us about it!

We went to Bluffton for Lake Michigan but loved exploring the history and charm of Bluffton and its neighborhoods. The beach was an easy walk, even for my two year old grandson, and we found another beach at Kruse Park that was an easy 5-minute drive away. We made a day trip to Holland where we enjoyed some parks and the shops there and there are other towns close by that are worth exploring.

Many thanks to Stan and Annie for all they did to make our vacation such a lovely and memorable one. We hope to return to Plum Hollow

and would enthusiastically recommend it to anyone seeking a great vacation by the lake!

Owner's Response: If staying in Vacation Rentals was an Olympic Event this family would be gold medalists. It was our lucky day when they decided to spend 2 weeks in our Plum Hollow Cottage and be the highlight of our 2016 Summer Season. All of them were a true delight, but the grandson was one of the cutest and smartest 2 year olds I have ever met. They made me feel comfortable to communicate about anything and help the flow of their stay be smooth and without any problems. It was very helpful to sit down the last evening of their stay & brainstorm some thoughts on how to keep improving the property. What a pleasure to be associated with such wonderful people.
