(For the 2016 season, there will be a freshly renovated yard with a hard stone patio, new tables and seating, and improved landscaping, to make the yard area both more useful and more attractive). Beyond that, we will let the photos do the talking, but note that this home has some especially attractive features for large groups, such as bedrooms that allow for privacy due to access by 3 separate staircases. The new kitchen has two refrigerators, tile floors, and a high efficiency washing machine. Dining area has two tables that seat up to 16 people. There are a number of flat screen TV throughout the house. Mattresses and pillows are all protected with hypoallergenic liners.

With all that is new, there are still many historic touches that have been restored -- sliding panel doors with the original hardware in the living room, stained and leaded glass windows, and a funky 'Nantucket Bedroom' that is great for kids.

Outside you will find a large, shaded farmers porch, outdoor shower, gas grill, and a more private sitting area on the side of the house. Cross the street and you have access to tennis/basketball courts (we supply high quality tennis rackets and basketballs) and a playground. Take a few more steps and you are on Circuit Ave, surrounded by restaurants, shops, and nightlife. As for the beach and harbor (including ferry boats to the mainland), they are just a few scenic blocks away.

Just Great!

We stayed in this home in early September of 09 and now we are planning out 2010 trip. This home was just great for our group of 14. Others have said it, but we really appreaciate the space to spread out for our different families and yet all gather together in that great dining room, which seats about 15 or 16 people. It's a great place to just hang out. There are a lot of nice touches to this home that are really helpful for large groups: 2 coffee makers, 2 refrigerators, 5 or 6 televisions spread throughout the whole house, and the personal computer. Something else worth mentioning -- the mattresses and bedding are of a really high quality, something you don't usually think about until you arrive at your destination. The owner was very attentive and I was always impressed by how quickly he answered my emails. The location is great..,just around the corner from town and an easy walk to the beach. The park across the street with tennis and basketball, and stuff for the kids is a real place. We highly recommend this home.

Truly Our Home Away from Home

My family has been vacationing on the Vineyard for over 20 years. We found this home around 10 years ago and fell in love with it. The home is well suited for our large group of up to 15 . Over the years the owner has completed many updates including a complete renovation in the last few years including central air and a new kitchen and bathroom! Those renovations have made the home even more enjoyable and comfortable. The home is right across the street from the newly and beautifully renovated Niantic Park, 2 min. walk to Circuit Ave., 5 min. walk to the beach, and the new bowling alley is right around the corner. We love the Vineyard and this home and look forward to returning for years to come.

Location, Capacity & Value

We are pretty familiar with MV. 11 of us ages 7 To 76. We are kind of "professional renters" in coastal MA and Lakes of NH spanning the last 12 years. Other reviews on this site capture the gist of this place. I will fill in some specifics that our troop found. Pros & Cons.

PROS: owner was very responsive to communications. Holds 15 people. Excellent value to occupancy ratio c/t other rentals in this area. Good location just off Circuit. Off street parking for 3 SUVs. Easy on street parking immediately in front of house (Can't stress this feature enough in OB). Dining room seating capacity and arrangement. Twice weekly trash pick-up (many good trash barrels and recycling barrels). Park across street (under construction). Great outdoor showers (lichen adds character). Excellent TVs (3). AC (central other than window box in room with the 3 twin beds). 2 good full size fridge/freezers. Good WIFI. Bedding and house towels provided. Combo Doorknob lockbox for keys.

It is unreasonable to compare the fit, finish and features of a typical $11,000/ week rental to this home at about half the rate. That being said there is some info that other renters may find helpful.

CONS: Overall there is a "Sarah Winchester Mystery House" feel to the place. This could pose problems to small children and mobility impared adults. Build quality and design are not strong features of this house. Fit and finish are the same. Stairs are narrow and steep. Toilets may require "side saddle" technique to use. Many doors do not close properly and privacy locks are not available. No master bedroom (no en suite). Upstairs bath floor needs replacement. Insufficient rings and hooks for towels etc throughout the home. As stated on website, no beach chairs nor beach towels are provided. We feel they would be welcome additions for renters in the future. Lack of well defined sleeping/bed arrangements on website. No waste baskets in bedrooms. Poor quality of some major appliances (dish washer, washer/dryer). Tennis courts in poor shape and no nets are up at this time. Minor pest problem with centipede(s). We resolved this issue.

Some of these issues are readily fixable and others are inherent to the property and still others are outside of control of property owner(tennis and park). When completed the park will in all likelihood be quite nice.

Overall and all things considered for price, location and GUEST CAPACITY, this is a good rental option IMHO.

Owner's Response: Thank you for writing your review. As always, I am very pleased that you enjoyed your stay at this home and in Oak Bluffs. For future visitors, I wanted to respond to some of the items you mentioned and hopefully augment the website description of the home. To open, this home accommodates all age groups. We have hosted chaperoned girl scout and cub scout groups, large family reunions, wedding parties, and many groups of retirees. What makes me especially pleased is how many of these groups choose to return. About 40% of my summer renters are repeat visitors and that number is growing. Washer/dryer: For 2017, we already planned on doubling our washer/dryer capacity with new high efficiency machines. We noted the reviewer’s comment and will replace the dishwasher as well. We also noted your mention of towel hooks and smaller items, and we will definitely fix that. As you might imagine with a home this size, there is always something that needs to be done, and keeping up with some of these smaller items can be a challenge. The construction of the home is one of its strong points. We began in the basement, by adding supports and structure and leveling the floors. From there, we have added dual hot water systems, new septic, all new electrical work, new central AC/heating, and new plumbing. Most walls and ceilings are new. We installed Brazilian cherry floors throughout the home, and tile in kitchen and baths. Where appropriate, we preserved the original pine floors. The outdoor stone patio that we installed in 2016 is actually a “green” project. The patio is water-permeable, which allows water to flow naturally back into the soil, rather than produce a runoff that tends to get polluted. I mention the details of the patio to show the kind of care we take when we plan improvements. Having said that, this is still an older cottage-style home in an historic Oak Bluffs District, and to some extent we try to preserve that "Oak Bluffs' feel." I happen to love the quirky floor plan and the rambling nature of this home,, but I also appreciate modern homes with modern designs, so I can understand why someone would want to make a different choice. We LOVED this house!! Can't wait to return to our Vineyard home!

This house was meant to be for my group of 14 and it was the perfect fit!

Communication/ Booking:

This was not my first time to MVY, but my first time renting a house through VRBO abd I was nervous to say the least! I had planned a tril for 18-20 people and our first house was a no go due to drop off. It is hard to find an affordable house for an unusual number of people (13-14) only a week or two away from travel. Luckily, I saw the great reviews for this beautiful blue house and reached out to the owner, who was so accomodating and prompt with responses. Joe was defInitely a delight to work with from start to finish, giving helpful suggestions for travel and once I received the contract I knew that I had made the right choice!

Location!!!!

I cannot express enough how perfectly this house is located. Circuit Avenue, with all of the shops, nightlife and restaurants, is literally at the corner and one short block into the scene, but the house is tucked away on its block so you still have peace and quiet. The house is also a five minute walk to the water/beach and maybe a short 10 minute walk to the Ferry. We didn't need a car to get around. My group rented bikes to visit Vineyard Haven and Edgartown and simply walked into town for shopping.

The House!!!

The pictures do not do this house justice at all!! It is absolutely beautiful and well layed out. The huge porch has enough seating for 10 people. We watched the Blood Moon rising on the porch with wine and dinner and a beautiful view. There is a grassy park across from the house as well as a tennis and basketball court. The side of the house has a high quality gas grill and picnic table perfect for a bbq.

There are three different staircases from the main floor leading to the comfortable bedrooms and it is such a pleasant surprise. All the rooms in this house are tastefully decorated with inviting colors. The bedroom on the main floor is my fav. It truly felt like home.

There are two living rooms/living room and den with open space layout and french doors for privacy. The living room is very cozy, with smart tv, cable and dvd player. The den has a built in book case with games and such. We often fell asleep in these rooms and the house is so relaxing that our group of thirtysomwthings were falling asleep before 10pm! The dining room easily seats 15 people we spent a lot of time enjoying meals at the tables and cooking in the grand kitchen. All in all, we LOVED it and will rent again!

We will DEFINITELY rent here again!

Just finished a three night stay at this home with 12 people (10 adults - 40's-50's, and 2 tweens). I would have to work hard to come up with a complaint! This group has rented many homes on the island over the past 20 years and this one has risen the ranks of absolute favorites.

Things I loved:

- multiple "wings" for sleeping; people really could have a little bit of privacy away from the big group.

- dining set up totally accommodated our big group

- 2 fridges: One for food, one for adult beverages! Brilliant!

- off street parking for our 3 cars, very safe

- the home is decorated beautifully, great colors on the wall, feels very homey. This house really LOOKS like the pictures!

- the house was clean, well taken care of, and the owner obviously spends the offseason investing money and elbow grease to get it in shape.

- the location is great -- very close to circuit ave and all the great shopping and eating that OB has to offer, the beach, and, of course, to Back Door Donuts. You really don't need a car to enjoy a great weekend here.

I'd point out that the bathrooms are a bit small; if you're a larger-bodied crowd, one or two of the toilets may feel a bit closed in for you. I'd also mention that there is a cool bedroom in the back with 3 twin beds, but you wouldn't put little kids in that space, unless you were confident in their ability to navigate tricky stairs. (You might also not put drunk adults in there, for the same reason :-) )

Finally, the owner was very collaborative with communication as the trip came upon us, and was SUPER responsive to any of my questions. He was a real joy to work with!

I would not hesitate to rent this place again!

Perfect House, Perfect Location!

Just returned from a fantastic one-week vacation on the vineyard at this beautiful house. The location is absolutely perfect—less than one block from Circuit Ave. (restaurants, arcade, ice cream, boutique stores, grocery store), a minute away from a playground, basketball and tennis courts and a few blocks away from the beach. We rented this house with another family (six kids under 7) and loved the convenience of walking everywhere.

The unique layout of the house is perfect for large groups. There are three separate staircases: first leading to two spacious rooms; second leading to two other spacious rooms and the third (off of the kitchen) leading to one very large room with three twin beds. There is also an additional room on the ground floor. At first, we thought the layout would be difficult with the kids and the stairs, but it turned out to be perfect. Each family took the staircases with the two rooms each and our two nieces (babysitters for the week) took the one larger room with three twin beds. It was so easy to put the kids to bed and enjoy dinner outside or inside without worrying that the kids would wake up. We loved the wrap-around porch, having the two refrigerators, outside shower and more than ample dining space indoor or outdoors. We were worried about how hot it would be at night and were pleasantly surprised to find up to two fans in every room (even though it got cool in the mornings).

As great as the house was, we were so impressed with the owner of the home. From the minute we inquired about the house he has been nothing but wonderfully responsive. The days leading up to the rental date, he emailed us a long list of restaurant recommendations. We arrived a bit earlier than expected and called him and he picked up right away and told us we could probably check in a bit earlier. Two days into our vacation, one of our kids decided to press all the buttons on the remote control and messed up the television. I emailed the owner and he responded within minutes and explained what we should do.

In all, a fantastic vacation at a wonderful home!
