Lovely family home in a beautiful location
We stayed at "Cois Farriage" in Ballinskelligs for a week at the end of August for a 3 generation family holiday. It is a lovely well equipped and spacious family home in a stunning location.
It is situated in a very beautiful area with lovely scenery, mainly comprising mountains and sea. The Ring of Kerry must be one of the most beautiful areas in Ireland! The local sandy beaches are lovely and were especially appreciated by our 2 granddaughters, aged 4 & 6. Ideal for swimming, building sandcastles, kite flying, etc. There is a castle ruin on the local beach, which we all enjoyed exploring. There is also a Sunday market near the information centre and cafe by the beach car park within a few minutes walking distance.
There is plenty to do in the area with exploring, walking, horse riding, a chocolate factory (with free sampling) which the girls loved, bird watching, etc, etc. The 3 family members in the middle generation climbed Carrauntoohil, the highest mountain in Ireland. They were lucky enough to choose the best day of the week for the climb and came back with some stunning photos. Boat trips are available to various places, but the trip to Skelligs is extremely expensive because of the popularity of the "Star Wars" filming connection. A visit to Valentia Island is well worthwhile. We went across by car ferry and returned over the bridge. However, we did get rather wet walking up to the signal tower at Bray Head and had our picnic sheltering in the tower with cows sheltering outside it! The views were lovely though, with a family run cafe nearby.
Mary, who looks after the house for Helen, is a star.and looked after us very well. She was most welcoming and informative.
"Cois Farriage" is the ideal peaceful retreat to 'get away from it all' and relax. It is especially suitable for outdoor lovers. We would highly recommend this property and would certainly return if we planned another holiday in this area.
A great home in a perfect location!
Less than 2 blocks from the beach! Shopping and great pubs only a 15 min drive. Easy to make day trips to most all the tourist attractions. This lovely home has 5 bedrooms and 3 full baths! The internet service is GREAT for those of you that have to work on your holiday. Also great for streaming Netflix. The kitchen has virtually any tool a cook might need. Helen & Mary are delightful to work with. They are helpful every step of the way. I stayed 6 weeks with several friends joining me at different times. Everyone was well pleased. I hope you get to enjoy this piece of heaven too!
a spacious property in a beautiful setting
The house had plenty of room for us, with 4 teenagers in tow. There is a café and a pub nearby, and of course a lovely beach (ideal for small children as there is lots of sand and the water is not deep) . We enjoyed our trips out around the Iveragh peninsula, it is spectacular, and we also enjoyed many stay at home days. There was enough to do without feeling we had to be out and about all the time, for us just reading a book and enjoying the view was great. If you aren't too bothered by typical Irish weather, then I recommend this place to anyone, the house would suit either a large family or 2 smaller families. We loved it
Very comfortable spatious house in an out-of-the way village on a quiet beach.
This was a great house in a quiet setting with good views. The house had everything we needed and the location was fabulous with a very long beach and a little castle you could walk out to. The house is not quite as close to the beach as the cover picture suggests - it was a 10 min stroll down a narrow road, but there was a great cafe at the beach so we were good to make the trip back (uphill). There are a lot of things to explore nearby, we especially enjoyed exploring Valentia Island and Portmagee. Downside was that it took a long time to get off the Inveragh peninsula. We made the trip out to the Dingle peninsula, but it was a long day and we felt rushed.
The rent does not include electricity and heating and we were a little surprised by how much it cost - we had to pay 46 Euro cash after a 5 night stay in June. Still we still felt it was a very reasonable rental overall.
Lovely house at great location
We stayed in Helen's house for 1 week in may 2017. What a lovely place. The house is fully equiped and is at a great location. We explored the magic area and fell in love with Ireland. Amazing views from impressive cliffs, an emerald sea, a landscape covered in blooming bushes and lazy, grazing sheep. Nice, helpfull people with a great sense of humour, great food and endless winding roads leading to magic places. When skies are clear, the starry nights are overwhelming. Thanks Helen and Mary. We hope to return one day.

Yes, the stars are absolutely amazing aren't they - we are situated in the International Dark Sky Reserve and we are so fortunate to be surrounded by such natural beauty-we are delighted that you & your family made the most of your Irish holiday with us-hopefully we can welcome you all back in the very near future! Thanks again! : )
There are a number of attractions in the area such as The Skellig Rocks, The Cill Rialaig Arts Centre, The Skellig Chocolate Factory (a must see!), Valantia Island, the Dingle Peninsula and the stunning Ring of Kerry. This delightful Ballinskelligs cottage is an ideal base for families and a group of friends who wish to visit and explore County Kerry and beyond.
