Bay-front 1 bedroom cottage with spectacular view of Coos Bay and bridge

About Jan and Ace Hickman
We came to North Bend in 2001 to take care of Jan's parents for the last 6 years of their lives. We now own and live in the home they built in the 70's (finished in 1973). The guest house is the cottage we are offering to travelers who are coming to the Oregon Coast and is where we lived for the 6 years we took care of the folks. Jan grew up here, having graduated from North Bend High School in 1969... so we are pretty knowledgeable about the area and what to do and see while you are here. Ace is from the East Coast and is currently restoring the main house on the property.
Jan and Ace Hickman purchased this House in 2007
Why Jan and Ace Hickman chose North Bend
We are the second generation to own this property. It was designed and built by Jan's parents. They sat on a stump of a tree overlooking the bay and drew out the plans for their dream home to retire in placing every thought into maximizing the view. They built the cottage first and lived in it while building the main house. After that the "guest house" welcomed travelers from all over the world... even an occasional hitch-hiker was invited to stay back in the 1970's and 1980's. We have a history of old guest books with entries written in many different languages.
What makes this House unique
Cozy and warm with awesome views of the bay and North Bend across the bay. The 10' x 24' deck on the back is the perfect retreat in summer as it is protected from the wind and gets very warm and sunny. A short drive to beaches and sand dunes, and if you love to browse vintage shops we have some great ones in our little town! For those who are not so familiar with the pacific northwest, I would like to let you know that the best weather for our summer season runs from about mid-July through late September... sometimes even into October.

Wonderful hosts, beautifully maintained property, terrific flowers. The unit contained everything we needed for a long-term stay. Best place ever, and Jan and Ace were very helpful and accommodating to our every need. Couldn't ask for better hosts or a nicer place. Highly recommended for short or long stay.
Jan and Ace are wonderful hosts. On our 2 day visit to North Bend, they treated us as friends. The cottage itself was as described on VRBO. It was very clean and supplied with the essentials we needed. The view of the bay is beautiful, and it’s just a few minute drive to the 101. We’d definitely stay there again.
Charming Cottage perfect for two! 💕
The cottage on the bay was the perfect spot for my husband and I to stay. They had everything we needed and everything we wanted. Amazing bay views and a cottage that we immediately felt right at home it has historic bay charm but looks brand new. Thanks so much Jan and Ace our stay couldn’t have been any better! 💕 Chris and Sandy
It was so fun to meet you!!! We are looking forward to your return! It is always such a pleasure to host guests who show such respect for our property. Thank you so much!!
Comfy and very cozy cottage
We were VERY happy staying in the cottage next to Jan and Ace's home on the bay in North Bend. It was superclean and well appointed. There was nothing missing to make our stay very relaxing and comfortable. Even a little table to do our puzzles. The location is extremely convenient too, as there is so much beautiful scenery and gorgeous beaches to enjoy close by. As Airbnb hosts ourselves in Tappen , in the Shuswap in BC, Canada , we appreciate the caring and kind hospitality that Jan and Ace provided and the lovely service they deliver. We hope to be back some day soon.
Gorgeous, clean, quiet, comfortable home away from home.
This property is amazing and well worth every penny. You can see the bay bridge from your living room. I am hoping to return in the summertime so I can enjoy the wrap around deck in some nicer weather. The hosts are friendly and helpful. It was a great find.
Nice view. Right next to owners' house. Nice place. No table to eat at. Overall a pleasant stay. The owners have just the right mix of friendliness and giving privacy, and with an added bar stool the dining challenge is solved.
There are TV trays tucked in the kitchen area and we do have an additional stool available upon request as well as a card table and chairs available for those who wish to have a table... however I need to make that plainer to see in the book as we don't always think of all that in the verbal run-down of "what's what" ~ I will make those changes.
