Such a wonderful and enjoyable time! We will be back!
Our time in the lakes was a blast! We wish it could have lasted much longer!
The location of the cottage was amazing! Just a small walk down to a private beach on Coniston waters. The river running past Dipper was unusual but comforting at night and the accommodation was superb. Clean, bright and we got settled in fast!
Overall our experience with sunny bank and it’s surrounding location was exceptional and we will be returning again!
Thank you so much from me and Pieter!
The cottage was very nice great location it was a bit smaller than the pictures suggest.
We had a great stay use of canoe and private access to the lake was perfect.
Access in to cottage grounds was a bit tricky turning off the main road.
There seemed to be more rules upon leaving than other cottages we have stayed in.
Overall a nice warm well equipped cottage
Superb little cottage in an excellent location by lake Coniston
The cottage is cosy and is within a 3 minute walk to lake Coniston. There is a babbling brook by the side of the cottage which you can hear, but is quite soothing though does turn into a raging torrent after heavy rains.
The cottage has every creature comfort which made for a very enjoyable stay and you can also hire Canoes to explore the lake and "Wild Cat Island" from Swallows & Amazons fame.
It is also pretty central to explore the rest of the Lake District, being only 10 minutes drive from Coniston and approx 20 mins drive to larger towns such as Ambleside or Ulverston.
The owners were very helpful and went out of there way to provide a BBQ (which wasn't onsite initially) and give useful information regards the surrounding area
Summer in the Lakes; June 2019
We were pleased with our choice of Dipper Cottage. We were looking forward to the experience of being beside Torver Beck and were not disappointed. the recent rain had turned the beck into a tumbling cascading torrent. The noise and spectacle made being in the kitchen/ lounge most enjoyable.
The room was warm and cosy for the two of us. lights were needed at all times of day, but that was expected. the recently refurbished kitchen was superb and the best equipped of any property that we have stayed in over many decades.
The layout of the property worked well and there was adequate space in the bedrooms, hall and bathroom. the heating worked well for our damp and cool week in the Lakes. the standard of the beds and bedding was not good enough for a property rated as luxury. Last year we stayed in a property with new sprung beds, goose down quilts and linen bedding. That was luxury! Similarly, the bathroom (bath and shower) is in need of bringing into this century. One of us has a mobility issue and needed a lot of help getting in and out of the tiny bath/shower.
The outside space and access to the lake was fantastic. it made those early morning and late evening walks with the dogs a treat for them and us. we enjoyed the lakeside and ability to hire a canoe. to some extent we were spoilt by being the only guests staying that week. We could enjoy the peace and tranquility of Coniston lake and do whatever we wanted.
Finally, the local walks from the cottage, up onto Torver Common and along the lakeside, were everything that the dogs and I could want before returning for a hearty breakfast. it is wonderful to walk for an hour and not see a single person; real solitude!
Absolutely Beautiful this place, cottage was immaculate, well equipment, comfy and cosy, lovely walks and scenery, our little dog loved all the walks and water around, it was great, would definately recommend. Hopefully we will visit again in the summer months.
A wonderful stay at the edge of Coniston Lake
This is a lovely property which is very well placed for exploring the lakes. The owners have thought of everything to make your stay more comfortable, from all the usual kitchen gadgets, hairdryer, torches for late night trips to the lake and a lovely library books for you to enjoy. There is a laundry room which is free to use and this was a godsend with the wet weather we had. In a few minutes you can leave the property and walk down to the lake where your private lakeside access (shared with just a few other properties) awaits. It is definitely worth hiring one of the canoes, we spent so much time paddling over to peel island. We had a campfire on the lakeshore and explored so much of the area. Our kids climbed The Old Man of Coniston on a beautiful sunny day, the view was stunning and it was a day we will always remember. A wonderful trip to the lakes, we can't wait to come back.
Thank you so much for a great review. Glad you had a wonderful week, and hope you'll be back soon!
Sunny Bank lies at the heart of England’s beautiful Lake District National Park. Here one can enjoy the peace and tranquillity of the countryside so beloved by Wordsworth, Beatrix Potter, Arthur Ransome (to name but a few) and yet be within easy reach of charming villages and towns with all the attractions they have to offer. 4 miles from Coniston, a small but busy typical Lakeland town, and just three-quarters of a mile from Torver, where there is an excellent pub. Popular tourist centres such as Ambleside, Grasmere and Hawkshead are about half an hour away by car. Sunny Bank is an ideal location for mountain walking, boating, swimming, sailing and other water-based activities. Bring your own boat or hire our canadian canoes.
