About Mike Anderson

I am an old house nerd who lives in downtown Fort Wayne with my wife and 3 wonderful children. I have been blessed to have the opportunity to take disheveled, ignored 100 year old homes, and restore them to their former glory. What a cool life when it turns out that you are really good at something you absolutely love to do. Please come and enjoy these treasures with us!

Why Mike Anderson chose West Central

This is the Historic Sion Bass House, built in 1854. This is a wonderful step back in time. The home is decorated in a Civil War theme to showcase Colonel Sion Bass, but has all the amenities you could want. Each Guest Room has been modernized with Fireplaces and Spa Style bathrooms.

What makes this hotel unique

The Sion Bass Guest Suite has a 2 person Spa Style Jacuzzi Tub. Enjoy the free downtown parking. It is a simple walk to all that downtown has to offer. Sit on the party deck out back and over look downtown.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Historic house similar to a hotel room. Downtown but still very quiet inside. Good value.

The home was built by Union Colonel Sion Bass, who commanded the Indiana 30th in the Civil War. The home is decked out with a Civil War theme, with pictures of Sion and his men. This is in the heart of downtown Fort Wayne, with Starbucks a Frisbee throw away, restaurants, and activity in all directions. This guest room is named for the original owner of the home, Sion Bass. Civil War Union Army Officer. Enjoy the common sitting/main gathering room on the main floor. We provide snacks, and a stocked refrigerator. Free parking is provided on site right behind the building. Garbage cans are located behind 517 West Washington next door for you to put your trash in as needed. Parking is steps away just in back of the building. We are on every major bus route in the city, and simply strolling distance to all downtown has to offer. Our family lives just blocks away, and loves all downtown has to offer. I am always available via text, and can be on property in minutes.

A beautiful suite in a prime location.

  • 5 of 5

My wife and I had the privelage of staying here before setting out on our honeymoon. We stayed in the Sion Bass House. The room and apartment setting were picturesque and comfortable, and we felt right at home. I haven't spent a lot of time in Fort Wayne, but when we stayed here, we were within about 5 minutes (or less) of everywhere we needed to be. The parking in the rear of the building was very convenient, and the Starbucks across the lot was handy too! Our stay was great! I would highly recommend this for a weekend getaway or short stay.

Great atmosphere in the heart of downtown

  • 5 of 5

My wife and I were in town for a conference at the Grand Wayne. The house is in such a great place and close to so much of downtown. We will definitely be staying again.

Beautiful, comfortable and quaint

  • 5 of 5

This property was everything I expected it to be. The home is beautiful and tastefully decorated to match its era. The location is perfect! It’s close to the downtown nightlife but still quiet enough to retreat to when it’s time to turn in for the night. The room had a two person jacuzzi tub, a fireplace and a gorgeous king size bed that makes for a wonderfully romantic getaway.

I would highly recommend this property and will definitely stay here the next time I’m in Fort Wayne!

Great historic retreat

  • 5 of 5

I stayed in the Sion Bass room and couldn't be more pleased. It was decorated nicely, the bed was very comfortable and the electric fireplace was a great touch on the chilly nights. This was my first bed and breakfast experience, I thought someone would cook breakfast but instead muffins and pasteries were laid out for everyone. The only thing I wish it had more of was towels. I stayed for three nights and only had two towels for two people. However I'm sure if I had asked someone they would have been supplied. The owner was quick to respond with any questions I had and accommodated me when I needed an extra night last minute. Overall I highly recommend this place. It's located in the heart of downtown, a short walk to shopping, dining the convention center and the ballpark.

West Central downtown is a magical space where people with souls reside. Sure, you can grab a tan cookie-cutter spot out in the burbs and care about the lawn, but why would you?

This is where history, art, and friends meet. The West Central Neighborhood encompasses all of downtown west of Calhoun Street, the heart of West Central is its urban residential area, the development of which began as early as the 1830s. Because of the historic and architectural significance of this area, the West Central Neighborhood was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1984 and was designated as a Local Historic District as early as 1985.

The West Central Neighborhood was named the “Best Old House Neighborhood” in Indiana in 2010 by “This Old House Magazine.” The north side of the Neighborhood, along Berry and Wayne streets and Washington Boulevard, was where many of the City’s most prominent families built large, stylish homes.  On the south side, situated between West Jefferson Boulevard and the former Pennsylvania Railroad tracks, exists a collection of modest, small-scale cottages arranged along narrow, tree-lined, brick streets. Many workers for the businesses and various industries stretching along the south side of the tracks resided in this area.

The area opens into downtown, with restaurants, shops, and countless ways to get lost in the city. The Historic Sion Bass House straddles the edge of the neighborhood and downtown. You can be out the door and on an adventure in minutes.
