Space 500 sq ft
Property type house

About the property

Furnished studio, 1 queen bed, 1 queen futon on 5 acres with mountain views

Tombstone Silver Nickel Cabin is located about 2 miles north of Tombstone on a ranch road. There are many hiking & ATV trails with historic sites to explore! The cabin is a fully furnished studio (one open space, except for bathroom) that sleeps up to 4 guests. The amenities are a queen bed, a wardrobe, queen futon sleeper, a full kitchen with cooking utensils, a bathroom with shower, A/C, electric heat, Verizon cell phone coverage, TV, DVD player, DVD movies & books. Great for couples, solo adventurers & small families.

To reach our cabin, you will travel over approximately 2 miles of occasionally rough dirt ranch roads. Low clearance vehicles, such as sports cars, are not recommended. Regular passenger cars, driven with care, are suitable to reach the cabin, although pick-up trucks, vans, SUV's & crossover vehicles are recommended. It is suggested you arrive before dark, as there are no street lights.

We provide a free shuttle service to and from Tombstone. Free parking is provided at the cabin.

The Tombstone Silver Nickel Cabin was named after the Silver Nickel Mining Company, which was a former owner of the property. No mining was done on the property. The home is located on 5 private acres of open desert, on a ranch road, about 2 miles north of Tombstone, off of historic Middle March Road. This was the route originally used by the U.S. Cavalry to travel from Ft. Bowie, Arizona over the Dragoon Mountains to Ft. Huachuca, Arizona during the latter half of the nineteenth century. The home sits atop a gentle sloping hill, with a great view of Tombstone and an amazing panoramic view of nearby mountain ranges. Sit on the front porch and enjoy the serenity of the desert, wildlife and nearby mountains. In the evening, sit around the camp fire & enjoy the spectacular starry skies and the lights of Tombstone. Hike or ride your ATV’s on local ranch roads and trails. Local destinations include historic 100 year old railroad beds, Cochise Stronghold in the Dragoon Mountains and the Coronado National Forest. We are just minutes from Tombstone, but near the middle of nowhere!

We are near the middle of nowhere, which is a fantastic area for relaxing on the porch and watching wildlife, birding, hiking, ATV’s, bicycling, motorcycling, trail riding, rock climbing, star gazing, painting, exploring historic sites and old railroad beds.

We provide bottled water, salt & pepper, olive oil, half & half, sugar, sweetener, ground coffee & tea. There are several convenience stores & a dollar store in Tombstone, about 4 miles away. There are major grocery stores in Benson, Sierra Vista & Willcox.

We have a full kitchen, including a large refrigerator/freezer, stove top & oven, microwave oven, 12-cup coffee maker, a French press coffee maker, toaster, dishes, glasses, pots & pans and utensils.

Perfect House, Perfect Owners, Perfect Place

Let me start by saying that I am a HomeAway employee and have the pleasure of speaking with and looking at dozens of Property Owners and Listings every day. And in my experience John and Gwyn are exactly what we at HomeAway look for in property owners. I never had to wait any longer than a few minutes for a response from them for any and all of my questions, they were also addressed professionally and properly. They also supplied directions that were much better than the ones given on Google Maps, however as they will tell you, a truck or suv would be recommended to get to the property, but a sedan could make it. Once we arrived we were greeted immediately with John and Gwyn welcoming us in the driveway, they were as nice as could be. They gave us a nice walkthrough of the property, they provided us with 2 binders full of information about the area, probably had more information than the visitor center, they even had the times of sunrise and sunset everyday we were there! The property was also stocked with waters, toiletries, tea, coffee, relevant movies, and essentials. We had just driven 15 hours, so we were tired and John and Gwyn definitely understood that and left us to our own accord after showing us around (my girlfriend and I took a nap immediately, the bed is very very comfortable). I also know that they would've been just as happy to stick around and chat (if we weren't so tired). As far as the property goes, it was prefect for our needs. The bed and futon are very comfortable, the AC works well, the movies were nice, the 360 mountain views were breathtaking especially at sunrise/sunset, it is a short drive to Tombstone, the firepit came stocked with wood and lighter fluid, wildlife to watch from the porch, a stunning night sky, and the list goes on. They also made it very simple for us to check out and were happy to answer questions we had even after we left. We will absolutely be returning here when we go on our Westward roadtrip, and we cannot wait. If you book here you will NOT be disappointed, this was a perfect property to accommodate a perfect trip.

Great home away from home

  • 5 of 5

LOVED our trip to Tombstone and coming home to this cabin made the evenings just as enjoyable. Great views of sunrise and sunset. Sunrise over the Dragoon Mountains was stunning! We saw cottontail and black-tailed jack rabbits, lizards and javelina without leaving the porches. I wanted to experience the outdoors that Arizona has to offer and this place did not disappoint! John and Gwyn are excellent hosts. We will definitely be making a return trip from Kentucky.

Quiet. Off the beaten path

  • 5 of 5

Our hosts went out of their way to make our stay great. They had a lot of locale knowledge and made great recommendations. Although the road coming in was somewhat rough, once we were there, we really enjoyed it. Gamble's Quail and Jackrabbits were abundant. The house in convenient to Tombstone, Bisbee, Ft. Huchuca Army Base and Coronado National Monument. We would recommend this location.

Awesome views!

  • 5 of 5

This cabin is great. It was exceptionally well stocked with paper products, water, coffee, hand soap, dish soap and ice. The front porch with the fire pit and Mountain View is spectacular. The dirt roads are great for taking your dogs on walks. Be careful if you have pets to protect them from predators. Our dogs had no problem and loved the cabin. The tv has basic channels which is adequate. We had a very good cell signal with AT&T cell phones. Be sure to visit Tombstone and The Forever Home Donkey Rescue in Benson during your stay. We look forward to staying again next time we come to Tombstone.

  • 5 of 5

John and Gwyn were wonderful hosts. We appreciated the personal welcome and the time taken by them to familiarize us with everything in the cabin. Our stay was comfortable, relaxing and peaceful and you cannot beat the views! Our two dogs enjoyed their morning and evening walks and roaming the property....even saw a large group of deer! Thank you for sharing this very special place!
